About us

Nestled between Hawkshead and Lake Windermere is this traditional 17th Century Lakeland Inn, situated in the village of Near Sawrey. Many of the illustrations in the famous Beatrix Potter books can be traced back to their origins here, including the Tower Bank Arms from The Tale of Jemima Puddleduck. Take a peek inside this historic property and you will find it still retains many of its original features including oak beams, slate floor and cooking range.

A small, warm and cosy retreat, free of distractions, restful and with charming simplicity. We create the 'Good Old Days' for you to remember with all the ingredients and the right recipe to make your visit truly memorable. You will find comfort with a friendly professional service, quality fresh food and an extensive selection of traditional, award winning local Cumbrian real ales, organic soft drinks and wines.

Throughout all seasons a favourite place for many guests to visit, meet and stay.

Popular with locals and holiday makers alike, for many, the pub is a destination in itself but there are numerous reasons to visit this beautiful area. Walking woodland and fell is a favourite, fishing on Esthwaite Water, watching the wildlife or simply admiring the scenery and of course the many local attractions.

Well behaved dogs are welcome.

Let us help you relax, unwind and enjoy a taste of Lakeland Life.

A cozy pub that offers a warm welcome from the generous and friendly owner and staff. The log fire, the stew and sticky toffee pudding were all wonderful!

We stopped at the Tower Bank Arms for lunch on a wet and cold December afternoon. It was an incredibly warm and welcoming pub. We loved it there. Delicious food, delicious pints of beer and great hospitality!

Called in for a post-walk pint and very glad we did. Perfect pint of Loweswater Gold, well kept and pulled, in a lovely old pub building with fire on and dogs welcome. Would have stayed for more if we’d had time…

A superlative example of how to do a great traditional British pub well. Service is superb, real ale quality and selection absolutely top notch. Outside it's picturesque, inside an example of a classic pub, small, but an open fire, atmospheric and spotlessly clean. Food good, but you must book for dinner. Outdoor seating. Car parking would be difficult in peak season, but I would recommend walking there. Only an easy 2 mile walk from Hawkshead. In my humble option possibly the best kept pub in the Lakes.

We ate at the Tower Bank Arms for the first time after many years of visiting the are and what a please surprise. The food, service and beer were all excellent, but there was some lovely quality touches like lit candles on the tables, and cloth napkins. Very friendly, cozy atmosphere. Will certainly go again.
