When I lived in East Sussex this was my go to pub for that rare 'it ticks all the boxes supreme experience'. After about 25 years I returned last night for an impromptu supper and treat for my wife and I. Great food, great drink and fabulous atmosphere. I am glad to see it still ticks all the boxes and we may even be tempted this year to book a weekend away...

Food was decent. I had the steak and ale pie, it was slightly salty but the mash and veg was tasty. Group had fish and chips which they enjoyed. Nice beer and lovely service. Would recommend as a place before or after a trip to the Birling Gap. Can park here and walk down

If I could 0 stars I would . I'd come over from Amsterdam to celebrate Christmas with my family who are locals in East Dean for the last 30 years and we were made to feel very unwelcome by the rude manager and surly staff . Reading other reviews on here I can totally relate as I've had other bad experiences here with meals and service over the last couple of years . My Dad used to drink there years ago when the old landlord Nick was in charge and we always had a lovely time . It was a really friendly pub with amazing food and atmosphere. However since they have changed management this pub has gone seriously downhill . The new manager has an attitude problem and no people skills as do most of the staff . The food is awful and the drinks overpriced . Really a pity as it's in a lovely location, so I'd recommend going to the a deli or the Thai restaurant across the road or in the summer just bring your own drinks and snacks and have a picnic on the village green .

We’ve stayed here a couple of times now and have visited in summer as well. It’s such a lovely pub - staff are really nice, the location is amazing, the rooms are great and they really think of lots of little things to make your stay more pleasant. One of our favourite places!

The pub is absolutely stunning, and we had a delightful experience with their delicious Sunday roast. The staff members were incredibly friendly and made our visit even more enjoyable. We are grateful for their hospitality and highly recommend this place. Additionally, the free parking facility made it extremely convenient for us. We even managed to incorporate an 8-mile walk to the Burling Gap, which added to the overall experience.
