About The Three Tuns

Nestled in the picturesque countryside, close to the RSPB nature reserve which offers free parking, and at the same time handy for the city of Cambridge, The Three Tuns has much to offer. It provides a delightful setting for family celebrations, business lunches and much more.

On entering the building you are greeted with an open fire in winter, and the traditional stone flooring in the bar area leads through to both the dining room and to the more informal area with comfortable pews and dining tables.

Over the years a lot has been written about the history of The Three Tuns; the following excerpt came from an ex-Cambridge Professor who specialised in local history.

"The tie beams in what had been the jettied wing (its lower part now encased in brick) display superb 15th century moulding of great quality; the decoration on the central boss suggests a corn connection.

The rest of the building was modernised in the late 16th, early 17th century when the fireplace and chimney were installed, at the same time, an upper storey was added. The present bar is situated outside the original building.

Many people ask if the pub is haunted, whilst we've not experienced anything untoward, locals talk of the old lady who lives in the ladies toilet who has been known to prod unsuspecting hand-washers in the back! The middle bar floor has been blamed for many a fallen glass or was it a mischievous local upset at his seat being taken….

My husband, Mum and I went to the Three Tuns for lunch on Saturday. We all agreed that it was one of the nicest pub lunches we’ve had in the area. The food was excellent and seemed to have been made freshly on the premises. My husband raved about the curry. The service was excellent and the pub had a lovely traditional atmosphere.

What a lovely, friendly, welcoming pub! We booked to eat here and said we were bringing our dog but she died just before our time away. The landlord showed a lot of empathy and understanding. This meant a lot. There is a beautiful open fire to sit near and enjoy a pre meal tipple. The food was lovely & good value. I would not hesitate in using this pub again. It was also decorated nicely for Christmas. Wish it was our local! Thank you.

Stopped in while passing south on the nearby A14, looking for somewhere for a quick dinner somewhere with charm and character and also dog friendly (ie. not Cambridge Services!). We certainly found it here at The Three Tuns. Dogs are welcome in the non-carpeted areas, and the staff happily accommodated us quickly as walk-in. The building is delightful with its thatched roof and original exposed beams, and the food and service were both great! Highly recommended for a stop when passing on the A14.

Only stopped for drinks. Been told by a local the food was very good. Service was fast and helpful. Plenty of seats inside. Massive beer garden out back. Would recommend and would go again.
