We didn't stay here, so there no stars for the rooms, BUT our dinner was very, very good 😋 All dishes were delicious and well presented ( chicken burger, reg burger , steal , pasta plus a few starters ... and of course deserts but to share as we were quite full ) Prices were fair for the quality of the food served , the chefs did a cracking job ! Our waitress was nice & engaging . No negatives & highly recommended 👌
A well appointed establishment having recently been tastefully refurbished. We stayed three nights in the annexe and had breakfasts and dinners in the main building. Our bedroom was fine, if a tad on the small side, with a spacious walk-in shower. The bar area is popular with the locals and during our stay on two nights the dinning area was also very busy but well-staffed so that there was little delay in taking orders and food being served. Monday night’s steak dinner offering is very good value and very tasty. The breakfast offering is good (and they do porridge) but service at breakfast is a little more variable, one day our tea and coffee were left in the kitchen, another day from order to appearance of cooked breakfast was at almost 30 mins. I would definitely stay there again.
Called in for lunch. Second visit here. Food extremely good. On this occasion we both had the steak and cheese "sandwich". Melt in the mouth steak, caremalised onions and melted Stilton!!! Best sandwich I've had in a very long time. Served with salad and chunky chips. Very generous portions and very reasonable price. Fast pleasant service. Very highly recommended.
Took my family for Sunday dinner and it was lovely and nothing was too much for the member of staff who dealt with us. The desserts are gorgeous 😍 The building is clean and well kept (unlike other pubs in the town!) Very busy and clearly very popular.
Called in to this place and it was not at all planned. On our return from a day trip to Blackpool Zoo and needed to break up the journey and grab a bite to eat. We had not booked but it was no problem getting us a table. It was surprisingly busy for a Monday early evening and a few tables were reserved. Very friendly and helpful staff, found us a table quickly and brought menus. Slightly pricey £15.95 was the cheapest meal and it was a burger. We opted for burgers and scampi and the food was delicious and fresh, with only a 10 or 15 minute wait for it to be cooked. Toilets lovely and clean and the decor of the pub was rustic but modern at the same time. Great atmosphere too. The waitress said they had a steak night on which was a free bottle of wine with two steaks ordered. Sadly we were still on shift looking after our service user so could not take up this offer. Will definitely go back next time I’m in Barnard Castle.
