About us

The Thomas Lord nestles in the picturesque Hampshire village of West Meon, close to the historic market town of Petersfield, not far from the beautiful city of Winchester and with easy access from the M27 and M3.

My husband, our 17 month old and I were at The Thomas Lord for a New Year's Day lunch, we were there for two hours and in that time received our starters but no main courses. I asked the waitress whether the food would be ready within the next five minutes and if not we would like to settle our bill and leave. I was told there was no way the food would be ready within five minutes as another table were being served next but that the children's meal could be expedited if that would help. I declined; food arriving at different times after a two hour wait is not a sufficient resolution for woeful service. No apology or reduction to our bill was offered, the only explanation offered was that they had "had a couple of big tables in". Hardly a surprise on NYD. The Thomas Lord was visibly understaffed today; either management are making greedy and unwise decisions about staffing numbers to try to maximise profit, or staff have called in sick on the most hungover day of the year but the latter seems unlikely having read other recent reviews. This is not a one off. We have been loyal and frequent customers over the years, evidenced by a family member gifting us a £100 voucher for Christmas for The Thomas Lord. The quality of the food was nothing like the food we have eaten here in the past. The scallop starter included two tiny scallops and the rest prawns. For £56 of that gifted voucher today we had two three starters, two soft drinks and two alcoholic drinks. There remains £44 on our voucher and I doubt we will use it, we are in absolutely no hurry to return. This pub has never been the cheapest but for a long time it was the best by a country mile. Not anymore.

I booked a table for Boxing Day Lunch in September, paid a deposit and advised Thomas Lord what my families meal choices were. We were all looking forward to it as a Boxing Day treat. We arrived on time, checked in and then sat waited TWO HOURS before finally giving up on food ever arriving, we were constantly told our food would be "ten minutes" and we clearly weren't the only ones being given this terrible service. We were eating with two young children, who were eventually tearful as they were so hungry so we asked for some bread - Thomas Lord couldn't even manage that! An absolute shambolic joke and we were never given a reason for the non-appearance of our food. Avoid at all costs.

Terrible experience at The Thomas Lord this lunchtime - we’d pre-booked during the summer for a Boxing Day lunch for our family. Having waited two hours and being constantly assured ‘our food was just coming’ - we left without our food being served and with the children in our party in tears as they were so hungry. We’d repeatedly asked for some bread for the youngest - but nothing ever surfaced. Waitresses were apologetic but the entire staff seemed to be without much idea of what was going on as the wait got longer and longer. What should’ve been a treat for our family party of eight was a total shambles - no-one at The Thomas Lord seemed to have a clue. Having dined here regularly over the years, I would now strongly urge anyone to think twice before booking here for any special occasions.

Very nice food. Very very good service. I was recommended to this gem of a pub. Unbelievable the quality of the food. I got home and realised I was over charged by the pub didn’t realise at the time. But I will pick it up with them when I go back as I will be looking forward to going back. A lovely Sunday experience going here today.

Beautiful pub with amazing food, a little expensive but very good quality. Great staff. Hotel rooms are individual chalets in a small orchard in the back. cosy and private and great value at 65. Would stay again for sure. Highly recommended.
