About us

One of the country's remaining brewpubs, The Tamworth Tap, brews on site and sources local hops for one-off, special commemorative ales.

Tamworth Brewing Co started brewing in 2017, in its bespoke microbrewery, located in a 16th century shop front, very near to Tamworth's Norman castle.

Making the miles its beer travels virtually none, means this venue is cutting emissions that would otherwise be pumped into the atmosphere.

Outside of the beer offering, the site also distils its own gin, presses its own cider and produces mead to a traditional recipe, all feeding into reducing miles travelled.

Most of The Tamworth Tap's team travel to work on foot or cycle and its product is supplied locally by hand cart.

There is a conscious focus to source products with more sustainable credentials, showing it isn't just its own carbon footprint the pub is concerned about.

For waste, packaging materials, glass and brewing by-products are all recycled, and spent grain feeds its rare breed pigs.

Other initiatives include used hops being collected by a local allotment group, which use them as fertiliser.

A number of energy-saving devices have been installed, including light switch sensors, helping to reduce energy wastage and the site has decreased its reliance on fossil fuels such as gas.

Using motion sensor lights reduces carbon emissions as the energy used is often sourced from the use of fossil fuels. These can create high levels of CO2 emissions as well as emitting other harmful gases and chemicals into the air.

Environmental responsibilities are paramount at The Tamworth Tap and investment into reducing its carbon footprint remains ongoing.

For the future, plans include the installation of solar power, subject to planning, alongside efficient heating.

Brew days at the venue produce cask and bottle conditioned ales for the tap house. The Tamworth Tap was awarded CAMRA's Staffordshire Pub of the Year for 2019.

An award-winning pub and micro brewery in the heart of Tamworth. A lovely beer garden to the rear.

Really enjoyed another return to the tap last night. Great service as usual, friendly locals and superb beer (cask, keg). Finished on a Belgian beer and it was great to see a couple of new ones in the fridge too. Till the next time.

The highlight of Tamworth real ale scene when you’re an ale enthusiast and you’re on a pub crawl. Great old timey look for somewhere relatively new, great range of real ales and lagers, and good selection of bar snacks from cobs to sausage rolls and pork pies I think. Friendly staff too. It is strictly over 18s only too. All in all, a great little establishment!

We went for the Sunday sessions, amazing music by Rob Taylor, in the gorgeous beer garden, overlooked by Tamworth castle, a brilliant recommendation for my beer, I'd expect nothing less from camra pub of the year, all in the sunshine. I would definitely recommend this pub, independent, quirky, in a really good way, great beer and staff.

Wonderful pub, voted CAMRA National Pub of the Year recently. Fully deserved in our opinion. Great beer range, warm and friendly atmosphere and fantastic décor. Glad we made the effort to visit on our way back to London 👍😁🍻
