About us

Our bar takes its name from the many servicemen from RAF Lavenham and beyond who would come to relax, drink and socialise and an inspiring collection of signatures and mementos adorn the walls, turning our Airmen’s Bar into a living piece of history. Pull up a stool at our long bar and raise a toast to the bar’s inspiring history with your pick of our creative cocktails or relax into our snug leather sofa with a bar snack and a pint of local ale.

Take time to read the Boot Record, inscribed on the wall by members of various UK regiments, some of which no longer exist or have been amalgamated with others. As one of the few sources of entertainment, the challenge was to drink three and a half pints of ale from a glass boot in record time. However, Lavenham airbase was famous for being the home of the 487th Bombardment Group of the 8th US Army Air Force, ‘The Mighty Eighth’. The 487th flew 185 missions and more than 6,000 sorties whilst stationed at Lavenham during the Second World War, and our Signatures Project to locate each of the names upon our wall continues to pay tribute to their bravery and camaraderie.

Had a lovely overnight stay. Food and service was amazing. Room 12 was lovely however it was a bit chilly even with the additional electric heater but it was an exceptionally cold weekend and also the traffic on the road outside was very noisy so was kept awake from the early hours. Spa experience was amazing and had the best massage I have ever had

One of, if not THE best dining experiences of the year. Food was faultless, staff and service impeccable (Thank you Dylan) its as simple as that. Great food, cooked beautifully and served by folk that actually care and add to the experience. Highly recommended. We will be back, that's for sure.

I was celebrating a biggish birthday yesterday & three friends came to celebrate with me. I chose the afternoon tea created by Andrew Smyth & it was delicious. They chose to have a lunch. There were a couple of issues which were sorted out smoothly & immediately. The building is amazing & atmosphere in the restaurant was very serene with classical music playing quietly in the background. It was a very enjoyable couple of hours spent.

Great old but tastefully modernized building. Excellent service by very polite staff. We were able to park outside to unload our stuff the use the car park. Very pleased to be able to bring our dog who was welcomed with treats. She was also able to use the hotel garden. Restaurant lovely with great service and great food. Good choice for evening meal and breakfast. We thoroughly enjoyed having a walk around Lavenham in the morning, with plenty of places to choose from (dog friendly) for lunch. Did a guided tour in the afternoon from the guildhall. Excellent Thoroughly enjoyed our one night stay.

Lovely hotel, characterful and friendly with good breakfast. We stayed for a weekend and also used the spa. Initially we were in Room 36, whilst this was a beautiful room the noise from the bar below, a large fan somewhere and the street was too much for me. The staff were very understanding and moved us to a quieter room at the rear of the hotel. There are lovely spaces inside and out to relax and read, chat and have a drink. Easy to socialise or be on your own which was nice. Location was wonderful, parking was easy and we had a great stay. Would recommend and we will definitely be back. Would say this hotel is good for couples but not for those with mobility issues as lots of steps and showers are over the baths.
