I had a good time with my work colleagues last Saturday, however I have a very good reason to believe that someone (even potentially one of the bartenders) spiked my friend's drink. Fortunately I was going the same direction home and guided my friend as far as I could safely. They started recovering consciously while we were taking a walk, however their body was still struggling to walk. My friend had only three glasses that day: two Jack Daniels and Coke and one Aperol Spritz.
Have been here many times over the years for both food and drink. A medium sized, modern style branch situated just over the road from the busy Westgate Centre. Today I popped in for Vegetarian Breakfast and Coffee. The pub wasn't too busy when I arrived, so it was fairly easy to find a table. The total is a bit more expensive than other Wetherspoons branches, with total coming to £7.81 (Vs £6.49 mostly elsewhere). Breakfast was well presented and cooked, although a little lukewarm with some items. Service was good. Worth popping in if in the City Centre, as it is one of the more affordable places to eat and drink.
Brie and cranberry panini ame with 1 singular cranberry and pretty much a 5cm in length but 0.1cm width bit of cheese, dreadful food, was like eating fried bread on its own. Busy atmosphere but nice for it to be lively, servers seemed nice but food was an extreme letdown.
Chips were reheated, burgers were tasteless and not very hot.
I can see this place turning into Student accommodation before long, it's definitely in a prime location for keen eyed University Magpies! They run a very inefficient kitchen that's not fit for purpose whilst trying to "push" an underwhelming menu that excludes the popular dishes on offer at the other two Oxford venues. This I find rather strange as it's located in the heart of Oxford and is usually frequented by students from the local universities and further education college, not to mention the daily foot fall and weekend customers. On this occasion the service was at an all time low. We were served by rude, angry and belligerent staff that displayed threatening behaviour. The upside of this frightening experience is that this particularly venue has such a high turnover of staff that it's very likely the same people won't be there in a few weeks. Overall a very bad experience 😕
