About us

The Running Horse is one of the oldest buildings and public houses in Leatherhead, Surrey. The pub was built on land owned by the church. It has a characteristic interior, with oak beams and a real fireplace. Situated next to Leatherhead Bridge and the river Mole, it is very popular with walkers.

Offering five real ales, it is no surprise to see that it is Cask Marque accredited and has been voted CAMRA pub of the year for the area, two years running. We also feature in The Good Beer Guide. Homemade traditional pub food is served at lunch and dinner.

Monday nights are the very popular pizza night, with homemade pizzas available. On Tuesdays, our quiz night is well attended & keenly contested. Live jazz once a month on Sundays, ensures a very pleasant background to our diners. We have a delightful beer garden, which fills up once the sun is out.

We are proud to sponsor Leatherhead Cricket Clubs development team. Running Horse dates back to 1403, having been built on land belonging to the church.

Known once as Rummyings House, it served 'noppy ale' by the infamous Elynour Rummyng, who featured in a poem 'The Tunnying of Elynour Rummying' by John Skelton, Henry VIII's poet laureate. Verses of which are displayed on the walls.

Legend has it that Elizabeth I once spent a night at The Running Horse as floods made it impossible to cross the river Mole.

Proper old school pub. Real fireplace. The food is on point. Lots of locals, and they are welcoming to all those that turn up.

Lovely quirky pub and restaurant, delicious home cooked food, good portions without overloading you so that you have room for pudding. I had the steak and ale pie followed by bread and butter pudding, really good winter food! The sevice was friendly and attentive, giving us the history of the pub which was interesting. It is an excellent place to meet up with friends or family.

We revisited the Running Horse for the first time for quite a while, and this charming pub has not lost none of its charm. We were warmly greeted by the management, and were extremely well looked after by Cindy who was a very nice lady. The beer was great, and the food was absolutely delicious, and we would certainly recommend it. Many Thanks to Cindy, for looking after us so well. From Ray,Rosemary, and our dog Susie November 1st @12noon.
