About us

The Plough, a well kept secret, a hidden jewel in the heart of the Surrey Hills countryside. Since 2000 our reputation has been built on word of mouth recommendations.

We pride ourselves on creating a warm & welcoming atmosphere enjoyed by families, business people, ladies that lunch & gentlemen alike, whatever the occasion. The Plough combines informal dining with restaurant quality, cooked to order fresh food from our seasonal, monthly changing menu.

Our garden & front terrace are popular with families, ramblers & shooting groups in the summer & when cooler the warm & friendly ambience inside makes this a real home from home for everyone.

Blackboards display a monthly changing menu of freshly prepared food, so we can offer seasonal dishes, complimented by fine Young’s Beer & Guest Ales & a personally chosen wine list.

The menu comprises contemporary dishes with a modern gastro twist & to traditional British favorites. There are also daily specials & homemade puddings from steak & bangers & mash to guinea fowl, sea bass or pheasant, pannacotta, brulees & ice parfaits to our reputed bread & butter, crumbles or sticky toffee pudding. “The Buttery Limited” tries to cater for all!

On Sundays we provide traditional sirloin or rib of beef, roast loin of pork, crackling & apple sauce all served with huge Yorkshire puddings!

For the often forgotten vegetarian there are a selection of 2 main courses, a risotto of the day, a soup & a starter. For (the) children, although not a specific menu we provide smaller portions of some of our freshly prepared dishes.

Updating in response to owner reply: We visited recently as family of four for Sunday lunch. Unfortunately the menu we saw online was different to that offered on the day with no alternatives to roast dinner other than the children's menu (and weren't advised when we booked). My teenage son is a little too old for the children's menu and had wanted the fish and chips, but was told it wasn't possible. Overall the roast was better than we've had elsewhere (the roast beef was very good), however the parsnips were almost raw and one of the pork belly servings was mostly crackling and fat with hardly any meat (which it was hard to find as food was in a single pile on the plate). We were aware that the pub is dog-friendly and this isn't usually a problem, but there was a dog wandering around the pub, looking for and eating scraps from under our table as well as sitting on the furniture. Some of our party have allergies and also fear of dogs, so sadly didn't make for a comfortable atmosphere for us.

Came in for a Sunday roast. Brilliant service, delicious food, and excellent value. Would highly recommend.

I visited this pub with my walking group. What a great place to stop. They already had set up tables for us and the food served was hot (sometimes we visit pubs and the food is cold because we’re a big group) and very tasty. I’m not vegan but I tried their vegan beans with peppers, avocado etc and it was stunning!

Booked for dinner here as it's dog friendly and we'd had a nice meal a few month ago. It did not disappoint: it was 'Pie Tuesday' and we had excellent Steak and Ale Pies. Squid starter was good too, and desserts. In fact we haven't found better food anywhere in the area yet. A resident dog plodded around delightfully.

The two women at the bar were very hospitable. We came for lunch and sat outside. I got the Plough burger on a gluten free bun, she got the chicken toastie, and an order of the skinny fries. The burger was cooked to perfection! Fries were crispy. Weather was nice. Good food and great service. Definitely a must stop if you’re in town.
