Had picked this pub due its convenient location as we were having a post-Christmas break at a nearby hotel and had spent the day in Dorking. We also saw its relatively good ratings online and thought we'd give it a go for a mid-afternoon light bite. In all honesty, I'm not sure why we didn't walk out after we initially got there. The welcome / service was awfully poor, the bartender seemed to take our existence as an affront as we asked if we could see a menu and asked if there was anywhere in particular she'd like us to sit. The response was a derisive laugh and a 'yeah' in a sarcastic tone as we were handed a menu. In a pub that was nearly empty, I'm not sure this is the way to go about greeting paying customers. There were glimmers of hope, to be fair to the establishment. The website referenced a renovation a few years previously and there was evidence of this. However, there was less evidence of upkeep and looking after / preserving the decor. The whole interior just seemed to lack basic TLC, e.g. cleaning windows and frames to prevent mould / mildew growth. In terms of food, it was okay. However, there were several dishes that they did not have. It would have been helpful to know this from the outset, considering we made our intentions clear that we wanted to order food. This may have, of course, been impacted by deliveries over the Christmas period. What we did eat was satisfactory and decent value for money. Our drinks were less impressive. Coca-cola was heavily watered down, more so than most, our other soft drinks were on the flat side. Unfortunately, we would not recommend or return. I think this venue does not live up to how it is depicted on the website or previous reviews. Whilst I can overlook issues with the food availability, basic polite service and maintenance of the venue is non-negotiable to get right. There is a pub further down the road which is pricier, called the Wotton Hatch. If you are in the area, I think this would be worth the difference. We would go there instead if we are ever travelling that way again.

Lovely Christmas meal this evening, for our book club. Thank you Adrian, we had a lovely cosy evening, with great food.

Placed a food order on the too good to go app, cost £17, pub was closed but taking orders online, might be worth coming off the app if you don't open. phone number isn't connected anymore, emails don't get answered. Would give zero stars but reviews don't allow it.

Normally stop over when on my motorbike for sneaky bikers half or two. Chilled place to sit outside watching the world go by. Place has a good vibe about it.

Went in with my mum for a roast on Sunday. The new landlord was absolutely lovely, he is a real people person. The pub is a real family affair. They all made us feel so incredibly welcome and made such a fuss of my 2 dogs bringing over chews for both of them. I would happily stop in there for a drink on my own. I can guarantee you are likely to meet a friendly face and be greeted with a warm smile. The food was hearty, home cooked and incredibly good value. The portions were large and very welcome after a long day outside in the cold. There is a decent car park, not visible from the road. This pub is a gem, a nice change from the numerous gastro pubs locally. I am looking forward to going back and I suggest everyone does the same .
