Although we have been around awhile, by 1845 Chertsey was a small town with a population of 5,347 and the Crown had become the Crown Hotel, a commercial inn.
The Crown was rebuilt in about 1898 specifically for the hotel trade in 1990 we added 30 bedrooms with a further 19 bedrooms added in 2004 in the carriage builders next door.

Lovely old hotel building in town centre with ample parking in a secure courtyard area. Super bedrooms well maintained and tasteful, the bed mattress was like sleeping on a cloud, just wonderful. Nice bar area with hot snacks and an open plan restaurant section suitable for meeting for lunch or dinner. The breakfast continental offer is quality products and substantial, also there is a hot breakfast offer cooked to order. On my visit, the only downside was a total absence of any bread tongs for the toaster.
We visited today, what started well with a very attentive lady who I then think was finishing her shift. From here onwards it was an extremely poor service, staff mingling at the bar talking or on their phones not paying any attention whatsoever, in which we had to go up to the bar to ask for a drink (when we were seated in the restaurant area for food) It was extremely quiet so it's not as if they were rushed off their feet or short staffed. We had to ask on two occasions for our starter plates to be taken away when our main meal had come out as there just wasn't enough room on the table. We then had to go up and ask for our bill. Overall the service was extremely poor and the food wasn't very good either.
We decided to try a pub/hotel instead of a bigger chain. The booking process and responsiveness were great. The Crowns food was excellent. The rooms, including one wheelchair accessible room were very good as well. The nearby high street led to a lovely Italian deli with 30-40 different panettones. We were very happy with our stay.
Over the last 13 months I have travelled from Australia 4 times and spent about 4 months in total at The Crown Hotel. Whilst the rooms do vary in quality and size my last room was excellent, the house-keeping team do a great job cleaning when I require it. I have always found the service to be very good and the staff very friendly and will go out of their way to make my stay as comfortable as possible. When I book in, each stay, I'm made to feel very welcome, it is my "home" when I am in the UK. Thanks guys, keep up the good work.
Lovely pub, great location and close to Thorpe park if you plan on going. Food is fabulous, drinks amazing and rooms well decorated and spacious. Would happily stay here again. Was gorgeous and spacious and just brilliant.
