Had a great meal with a friend, ordered the mini desert with a coffee through the qr code on menus, when you do this there is no option to choose a coffee, basically paid full desert price for tiny desserts, when we asked about the coffee we were met with rudeness and arrogance from one of the staff members, I was so angry we hurriedly finished the deserts and left, on the way out the manager deliberately stood in my way so I had to walk around him. I've been coming to this pub since I was 8 years old and I'm sorry to say I will never go back again.
you might have a problem with your booking system as we went to leave balloons for my daughters 21st and was told that although I booked it at 7 o’clock in the evening, the bar staff at the time thought I’d booked it for 11 o’clock in the morning, then it automatically changed to 1 o’clock in the afternoonthus were in the person that was delivering the balloons because they thought it was going to be at seven which was correct, but your staff had put it down as a no-show. Luckily they still had room and we got to enjoy our evening at the Woodman.
Service itself was fine as was the food. However having arrived at 7.45pm we ordered starters and manin courses only to find they stop selling deserts at 9pm. It hardly gives you much time to eat. Fortunately they accommodated us when we ordered deserts at 9.15pm. We were then told at 9.45 that they were closing early at 10pm as it was quiet - like the fact that we were there didn't matter. We were then chased to pay the bill at 10pm, which we did. We were able stay at the table a little longer, but without any drinks, which meant our evening meal wasn't curtailed to just over 2hrs. We then stayed until about 11pm, but somehow someone else arrived and was served 2 pints of lager, way after 10pm. All very odd. Why do these places now just choose to close early. If you've made plans to ho out with friends, a 10pm closing only amounts to a couple of hours - pointless. It was ok, but just that, I can't see us going back in a hurry, not if there's a risk they'll close early just because they fancy an early finish!
Service good, food bad. Crispy prawn sandwich had 3 prawns and came dry. We had to ask for the Marie rose sauce. Server was very apologetic. Prawns had most of the moisture cooked out of them. Shepherds pie tasted ok but was tiny. Cabbage came on the side but hadn't been strained properly, so sat in a puddle of water. £30 lighter and hungrier than when we went in.
Went for an evening meal and was first told there would be a 1 hour wait - not sure whether that was good news or bad. We ordered our food from an uninterested waitress, visibly irritated that we were keeping her awake. The food came quicker than the hour expected however it was average at best - nothing special to distinguish it from everywhere else although 2 of our party did not like their meal but were just too hungry to not eat. The ambience wasn't anything to write home about except, and I don't know if this was planned, the venue felt comfortable enough to eat but uncomfortable enough to discourage staying longer than needed. All in all, average - nothing more and nothing less.
