About us

The Sun Inn in the centre of Kirkby Lonsdale is owned and personally run by Lucy and Mark Fuller. The boutique Sun Inn combines the character and charm of a 17th century inn and AA two rosette restaurant with the luxury of contemporary, modern hotel accommodation. Stay in one of the Sun Inn’s eleven luxurious hotel bedrooms on a bed and breakfast basis (and see why we’ve been given an AA Breakfast Award 2015) or enjoy further foodie treats with dinner during your stay in Kirkby Lonsdale.

The Sun Inn’s restaurant, ‘Carter at the Sun Inn’, is featured as a ‘local gem’ in the 2015 Good Food Guide and offers a selection of light snacks, lunches and dinners, as well as ‘Posh Noshers’ wine tastings and gourmet foodie breaks. Locally sourced food and award winning sausages from our own Kirkby Lonsdale butcher make a fantastic breakfast, equally matched by Head Chef Sam Carter’s award winning evening menu. Meanwhile, real ales and roaring log fires will welcome you in the Sun Inn’s traditional bar area.

Just behind the Sun Inn’s boutique B&B in Kirkby Lonsdale is St Marys Churchyard, with the original sun dial which inspired the inn’s name. Guests can also meander down to the River Lune to enjoy Ruskin’s View, immortalised by the painter JMW Turner, during an overnight stay at this Cumbrian beauty spot.

So whether you are just looking for a place to eat, or want a luxury short break close to Ingleton, North Yorkshire and the Lake District, then the Sun Inn at Kirkby Lonsdale can accommodate your needs with boutique hotel rooms, award-winning breakfasts and evening meals, and a warm, personal service. We even have luxury dog-friendly bedrooms too.

Good location, in centre of Kirby Lonsdale. Have a good range of real ales. Lovely tomato and pepper soup. Very dog friendly, and popular with canines and their owners. Nice place to stop after a walk around the town.

Just went for lunch between Christmas and new year, and we were really impressed. Lovely cosy feeling to the pub with a wood burner. Most tables were booked, but the staff managed to fit us in between bookings. I had the best fish pie I've ever had!

Such a beautiful meal last night at The Sun Inn. The whole experience was great, the staff were lovely (very dog friendly), food was beautiful and the vibe is relaxed and welcoming! Definitely a new favourite as it’s only 10 minutes from the M6 motorway !

The best pub/hotel we've ever stayed in. Attention to detail was above and beyond regarding quality, furnishings, fixtures and fittings, and even having a Welly rack to loan wellies for puddle jumping whilst exploring the area in inclement weather. Jenny was very welcoming, and the young gentleman checking us in (sorry, forgot your name) was efficient and polite. The bed and pillows were soft and comfortable, and I defy anyone not to have a great night's sleep. We stayed in room one, a small double, which was perfect for us, and the bathroom was spacious and actually had a bath. Breakfast was hot and tasty, and we were served promptly even though it was busy. To sum up, if you go there and even if you're not staying there you will enjoy luxury service in quality surroundings, go on have a drink in the pub its so comfortable and warm. Perfect.

An absolute gem of a pub with wonderful food, a fine selection of beers and wonderful service. Immaculately clean. The fish and chips are first rate. The tomato soup is worth coming back for on a winter's day. Bonus for dog owners: there's a nice dog-washing station on the St Mary's Church side if your pup's been swimming in the Lune and needs a rinse. Needless to say, very dog friendly, too. A perfect place to grab lunch after seeing Devil's Bridge and the Radical Steps.
