I will start with the good bit first. The refurbished rooms are amazing, very very clean, great little bathrooms and the room we stayed in had a bath, that was very relaxing. Now the issue. My fiancé had a £250 gift card voucher we intended to use. Phoned up Greene King booking line because I could not see anywhere where I could put in the voucher. Easily done, told them I want to use said voucher, not an issue, they put a note on the booking system. Asked three times if the voucher was accepted, was told yes. The leaving day, showed the voucher to the polite person at the counter, they were told by the manager they do not take the voucher. They charged my holding debit card number, I tried phoning the booking line, shut on a Sunday. Eventually I got through to the booking line and told them what happened, apparently the pub should have accepted the voucher, they were supposed to ring me back to talk about this, have not. Over a week now. So instead of a birthday gift I had to shell out £164.00. The manager also said that the booking office was not adding people's breakfasts on to the booking. I recommend recording the conversations, getting all the booking Information in writing emailed over, and covering yourselves. Lovely place to drink and stay. Poorly managed on the booking and communication side of things.
Stayed here previously and the room were good. This stay the rooms had been refurbed a few weeks before and they were amazing. Very plush, stylish and modern bathroom facilities with an incredible double shower. The bed was super comfortable, all the amenities you could ask for including a pod coffee machine and a gigantic TV. Would happily recommend this as a place to stay to anyone.
Great food, the steak and kidney pie was a real pie. The real ale was good too. The room was recently refurbished and was very good. This room was the only one with a bath in the bedroom as well as a shower. Facilities were great, I even managed to park my car in the car park at the rear.
Sometimes I don't want fancy pants dining. I just want good English pub grub and that's exactly what you get here. I'm not a pub goer so had to ask friends for a recommendation and they immediately suggested the Dog and Partridge. I'm very glad that they did. Everything about the place was lovely - staff, food and service. I will say that on our visit they didn't have any non-alcoholic beers and no Guinness 0.0% which was disappointing. I really fancied an ale to go with my pie so, hopefully, they can get a decent stock of non-alcoholic beers in the future. I can't be the only non-drinker in Bury St Edmunds.... EDIT: Great to hear about the Guinness 0.0% being available now. I'll definitely be back!
I've been here a few times, but just for beer. Its always busy, and the staff always look run off their feet; however, they still manage to provide great service. Tonight I had the steak and ale pie. Probably the best meal I have had in a long time. I've never tasted Hispi cabbage, but now I know how amazing it is. The whole meal was a delight and the staff was very friendly and professional. 11 out of 10. Well done 👏
