Lovely stay and very comfortable room, but it does need updating. Hospitality great, food good too!
Pre-christmas lunch with former colleagues. Nice building although background music a shade too loud for me (I have a hearing aid and conversation was sometimes difficult). Very friendly staff and efficient service. Food was very good and attractively presented. Very enjoyable and good value. Looking forward to coming back.
Room needs a bit of character to match the frontage of hotel & to feel more cosy like rest of hotel . No air con & very stuffy room , could only open window a few inches . Bed very comfortable but pillows weren’t . Hard to sleep because of stuffiness & neck ache from pillows . But very quiet room. And free parking always good. My partner enjoyed his full English breakfast but not much choice for me. Had pancakes which were ok but bit stodgy. No juices or water , no cereals , yoghurt, fruit or pastries. Staff friendly & polite. Great location to wander around local area.
Stratton House seems lovely from the outside, with its climbing plant and Georgian appearance. Indeed, the pub and bar are welcoming and tidy enough. However... we stayed one night as we were attending a local wedding at a beautiful function venue not a mile away. To say we were shocked at the poor state of the room would be an understatement. The headboards were stained brown and yellow, supposed to be white. One armchair soiled right through, looked like a toileting accident. The carpet was stained and dirty. Another chair was sagging and worn to the point of the upholstery ripping. It felt very dirty. We alerted staff, who could not offer us another room as the hotel was fully booked. We tried to move accomodation but everywhere was full. This hotel has such potential, especially with an excellent function venue nearby, but the carelessness of its owners to ensure better standards and lack of reinvestment means I really cannot recommend anyone stay there. It feels deeply disrespectful to clients.
Decent place for a night. We had top floor loft room which although roomy was up 4 flights of stairs and next to the water tanks/ heaters so from early in the morning , a lot of noise with the tanks constantly filling and heating. The carpets and decor around the corridors in general are well worn and badly stained. They stop serving breakfast at 10, which after a late night out was when we were getting up , but they served a decent coffee . Great value tbh tho in a great location for the town centre.
