About us

The 'Packet' is renowned for its food with an extensive menu served in either bar, lower dinning room or conservatory. The specials menu is changed twice daily and focuses on making use of the best available, local, Scottish produce through the seasons. Unsurprisingly, we specialise in seafood; taking advantage of what the local boats can provide. Lobster, crab, sole and monkfish are just some of the dishes regularly served here.

A wide selection of drinks are available from the bar including our award winning real ales, we are the 2013 area and region CAMRA pub of the year winners, extensive selection of malt whiskies and comprehensive wine list of which we serve at least nine by the glass. Tea, coffee and hot chocolate are served all day.

Local activities include walking, fishing, cycling, shooting, bird watching, sailing or just simply relaxing in an idyllic location with a good book.

Children and dogs welcome.

After getting completely soaked from the back end of jolly ‘Storm Gerrit’ we certainly did! A nice drenching walk to the lighthouse. Anyway, a nice evening was had at the Steam Packet Inn which I would certainly recommend. The food was delicious (especially the scallops) coupled with an impressive array of local ales from the Five Kingdoms Brewery. Well done guys for keeping a thriving pub in an out of the way place.

We spent the night at the Steam Packet Inn whilst visiting our granddaughter, what a great find. All of the staff are amazing and are both professional and very friendly. We were lucky enough to be given a complementary upgrade (room 6) which was excellent. Plenty big enough and nice and toasty warm despite having two very large windows overlooking the harbour. The views are perfect. We booked our evening meal there and also had breakfast the morning after. The food was really good, you can taste that only top quality ingredients are used. The dining area was lovely, all lit up and decorated for Christmas. The service was slick and those waiting on were only too happy to help. We also spent a couple of hours in one of the two bars, there is a good selection of beers and wines. We will definitely return and highly recommend.

On holiday around 45 minutes from here and stumbled across this place when stopping for a pint. We then booked for food the next day, it was divine. Couldn't fault it at all! Outstanding food, great beer from the local brewery (Five Kingdoms) and fantastic service. Dog friendly and family friendly. All the staff were wonderful with the dog and our toddler.

We popped in on a stormy evening for dinner. A real gem displaying character at every turn of the head. The food was fine dining but had no pretentiousness about it. I had the best fish and chips I've ever had. All the food and local beer was excellent. Thank you!

We have just been on holiday up round Port William and happened to stumble on this cozy warm pub/restaurant. We only went in for a quick pint but it was so cozy and relaxing. If I had stayed any longer I could have quite easily nodded off near the log burner. Dog friendly as well is always a plus for us. The menu looks fantastic but it was our last day otherwise we would have booked a meal. If your in this area, find this place ASAP you'll love it.
