Had to wait 10 minutes in reception before a member of staff arrived and then they had to check if our room was clean. Hotel was clean and warm. Some basics missing. Staff need training. Breakfast was poor we were told it was not included in the price on arrival so paid extra. The continental was included which we would have been quite happy with. I asked for vegetarian breakfast and the staff were unsure of what foods I could eat??? We had very little sleep. The room was noisy as we were above the bar and could hear music and shutting of doors til early hours. We got locked out of our room and no one was in reception to help.
A nice welcome - but there the positives finished! Paper thin walls mean it is extremely noisy from next door rooms, even when they were just having a normal chat or with the TV on - before the party started!. Shower wouldn't stay on, lighting in bathroom is very poor and dark, some bulbs not working in table lamps in bedroom, etc. Good price but it just needs some love. Come on owners?!
Friendly staff and very nice food. I am sure the staff here at Staindrop have had their work cut out turning the hotel around after it was treated so badly recently. Our food was cooked to perfection absolutely no complaints. Portion sizes were very generous. The young waiter was constantly cleaning tables and preparing them for the next guests. So absolutely no doubt that the place is clean. All staff had smiles for us and very friendly too. The waiter that showed us to our table was really lovely. We will certainly be eating here again. Thank you for a lovely meal.
I know this hotel has received some bad reviews recently and it's certainly not the place it used to be. However, we have been tonight for a meal and we enjoyed it. The food was lovely and the guy who served us was equally lovely. I can not fault the food or the service. The decor needs attention and there are lots of outstanding maintenance jobs. The hotel seems to be short staffed and there was no heating (only small electric blow heaters) but we would definately eat here again.
The rooms are spacious and clean. The staff are friendly and make an effort to ensure our stay was comfortable. The room was warm. Fresh towels and toiletries provided. My son forgot his toothbrush but the hotel provides toothbrush and toothpaste as part of their toiletries which is a nice little touch.We did not have food so can not comment on that. I honestly could not fault the hotel and is very reasonably priced. I was anxious as I was travelling with a teenager after reading the reviews but I felt safe and what I gather from the reviews that the hotel has new ownership and making improvements so please don’t let previous reviews influence your decision as I can’t fault the hotel.
