About us

Dating back to the 19th Century, the inn originally comprised a brew house, skittle alley, garden stables, outbuildings and a three-acre arable field. By the 1920's, The St. George and Dragon was one of the leading roadhouses in the county, described in auction details as "the most unique inn in Devon."

A country pub oozing rural charm and rustic character, our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.

Whether you are planning dinner with friends or Sunday lunch with family, book a table online and enjoy some quality time with those you love the most.

The staff were truly amazing - very friendly and obliging; nothing was too much trouble, and the table service was quick and efficient. You can tell a lot about a place when the people who work there are smiling! The food was delicious - certainly one of the best Sunday lunches I’ve had in a while. The place itself is beautiful - both inside and out. It was a blustery cold day when we came, but inside it was snug and cozy warm. The decor and furniture have all been thoughtfully put together - absolutely gorgeous. We had plenty of room too - the tables are nicely spaced out and we didn’t feel squashed in. We all felt ‘looked after’.. and have already booked again (at the end of February) so that we can bring other family members to enjoy a lovely Sunday lunch.

I didn't want to make a fuss yesterday being Christmas day and everything. But I genuinely feel like I've been robbed of £82.95. The 3 course Christmas day meal we had yesterday wasn't anywhere near worth that kind of money. Duck salad (starter) - looked better than it tasted. Really didn't taste great at all Turkey breast (main meal) - truly rubbish. 1 lousy pig in blanket, 1 lousy stuffing ball, disgusting brussel sprouts, roast potatoes below average, hard carrots and parsnips. Just not enjoyable basically. Chocolate trio (dessert) - quite possibly the weirdest dessert I've ever tasted. Covered in a sweet bright sauce that was disgusting. Don't get me wrong I ate the food. But what else am I going to do when I'm starving and have paid all that money? The older staff seemed a bit simple. The 2 younger girls seemed nice and friendly enough. I won't be coming back here in a hurry. Unless they want to refund my money.

After booking a table for a family meal for Christmas Eve we arrived to find our table had been allocated to other people and were then led to the other end of the bar area where no tables had been laid up, a vacuum cleaner was leaning against the table where it looked like we were going to be given. The staff member was then told by another staff member that the area had been kept clear for a reason and not to sit us there. They then threw me a few choice remarks at each other. This was all happening whilst we were stood there & as if we didn’t exist. We were then taken to a nearby table which was really in the bar area. We sat down but we’re less than impressed as there was no festive atmosphere as were were not amongst other people. Our good order was taken and the starters arrived as did our drinks. There was then a long delay before the main course arrived and we actually had to ask for it. The waitress was pleasant and smiley but kept referring to me as ‘her lovley’which I thought was a little condescending. When the bill came the deposit I had paid on booking had not been deducted so that was just the final straw. I visit this pub/ restaurant regularly with friends but will not be doing so again. Very disappointed as we were expecting a lovely, festive family evening but instead we had an evening where we had to just make the best of a bad situation. The food was very nice.

We booked a group table for 15 and the food, service (Emily) and atmosphere was absolutely 100%. We all were treated exceptionally, the food was fantastic and we were able to have fun between us without feeling as if we were disturbing anyone. We will definitely come back. Thank you.

Beautiful old part of building. Clean and spacious accommodation. Food good but have to pay as you go rather than bill at end of stay. Service friendly and good. Maybe a little pricey for room.
