Unfortunately I will only have to give you 3 stars. The experience was amazing up until the closing time. We knew that the pub closes at 10pm, so we have ordered when they told us to do the last orders. We were close to leaving at the closing time but had few sips of our drinks left. But the staff literally walked over to us 3 times to tell us that they're closing? I have never had that experience in my life and we left the pub just 5 mins past 10pm, as it was not pleasant to be told to leave every 10 seconds. I completely understand if it was just us sat there but as we were leaving there was still people sat at tables drinking beer and had full glasses too! Unacceptable and I completely do not understand why it was just us being told to leave immediately whilst we still had a bit of our drinks.
The girls behind the bar and waiting tables were good and, frankly, I felt sorry for them. The food was an absolute disgrace and it's the worst meal I've had in years. Calamari and onion rings soggy whilst I can't begin to imagine how they got the mushrooms bullet hard, although I know exactly how they overcooked the belly pork to black! Spoke to the male manager who had appeared behind the bar and whose response was "I get that!!" Simply and absolutely not good enough. Next time we'll drive right past and certainly wouldn't eat here again.
Marked it at 1 star for food as my well done steak was red and bloody... I returned it to be cooked some more but still it came back pink...so I tried getting the attention of the waitress, I waited that long to get her attention, a fly came and landed on it!! So when she finally came, she offered to take it back again but I said about the fly landing on it and she still wanted to recook it!! I said, "not now the fly has been on it" All I got was "sorry about that" Won't be going back there again!
Awful food. I opted for the sizzling chicken because it looked fresh, healthy and tasty. In reality the chicken was burnt, the veg was a green mush and the rice was dry. Photos show menu description, photo in the menu (its of the salmon option but the chicken was the same set up) and then a photo of what I received. We stopped going to this pub 6 years ago and we'd recently heard it had improved. Hmmmm I don't think so. My husband had the veggie burger which was a basic burger, nothing special, and frozen chips. Both meals we could cook better at home. Sorry Spirit, we do not recommend.
I had not been here for several year's in spite of often passing by, but I will definitely be returning. The restaurant was very spacious and pleasant. Staff were all friendly and helpful. The food was tasty, cooked nicely and well presented. Mega mixed grill wasn't exactly mega, but it was good value. In fact everything was reasonably priced. There is a large children's play area, which looked fun, even the mardy teenager's wanted to go in it!
