A great local find in the village of Fence. We stopped in for an early dinner on this Friday afternoon. The young lady was overly conscious not knowing which empty table to seat us at so it took some time to seat us. However, the staff were young and friendly and nice to have a chat with. After prompt service of our drinks, food came at a decent pace. I started with a delicious hot bowl of cream of leek and potato soup, elegantly presented with croutons and cress and small roll. It was followed by a nicely presented small plate of fish and chips and mushy peas, which was a bit smaller and more battered than expected. Hubby had the burger with fries and salad which was ample. We shared a ceasar salad with beautiful not too crunchy croutons, shaved parmesan and bacon bits, however we believe the dressing could have used a bit more garlic and anchovies, if offered. Overall, we felt the experience was well worth the stop. The atmosphere was cozy and the ceiling globe was a beauty; had there been more seating we would have loved to been in that part of the bar. The only suggestion would be for the managers to move the smokers away from the front door as there was no other way to the car park.
Thoroughly enjoyed this pub/restaurant. This will be our new regular fine out provider when we are visiting family in Burnley. I had the salt and pepper kebabs, despite being slightly overcooked they were delicious. A couple more chips would have been nice. Friendly jovial staff and a delightful environment. I was looking for a good place to go for some food with my family and I can across this place and I went in and asked if the where still serving food at 7pm and they said yes and then proceeded to ask me how many people I wanted to seat for so I told them 4 and the guy on the bar went and spoke to his manager and he told me I could have a table in the middle of the pub so I asked if there was any chance I could change that as I have a small child with disabilities and didn't like being in the middle of a crowded place so he went and told his manager my circumstances and they proceeded to take me to a quiet place in the pub and said he would clean the table for me and my family then he didn't wait to long after we sat down and asked if we wanted any drinks and then proceeded to go get us menu, we had a look at the menu and he came back with drinks and we placed our order of food the guy also made my youngest daughter with disabilities feel so welcome in the pub and when she had a few little moments in pub nobody said anything to us and we waited about 20mins for food which was brilliant the staff came and asked if everything was okay for us and kept checking if my youngest daughter was enjoying her food and she was very happy with her pizza and there understanding of her disabilities and my food was perfect I dont write a review if I didn't like the food and service I recommend going to this lovely family friendly pub and will be going with the rest of my family and friends Thanks again to all the staff here for helping me feel welcomed here Here are the pictures of the food we ordered and will be ordering again in the near future

Mmmmmm! Let me think. Lovely venue. Lovely & friendly staff. However! The menu on paper looks absolutely mouthwatering but in my opinion failed to deliver in reality. In fairness we were given a discount once our concerns were aired. Everything ordered was delivered to our table in one go ( there were 8 of us). No one was told "yours will be here shortly" only to arrive after everyone else had finished. It was also cooked well and hot through out. Our olive board starter came initially with no olives! It was promptly rectified, although with the abundant choices of olives available today the olives were just run of the mill small unflavoured black and green ones. The accompanying hummus on the otherhand was very nice. The chicken kebab was a poor portion. I myself had the lamb Henry and found it very bland and lacking any presentation. Mashed potato, lamb and roasted parsnips didn't set the saliva glands into overdrive. All a bit "grey". Drinks were reasonably priced. The merlot was very nice. All in all mixed feelings really. Thought for the prices it should have been better.
