Welcome to The Cross Scythes pub in Totley, Sheffield. Our picturesque pub is housed in a building which, according to Sheffield History, in part dates from the 17th century.
The Cross Scythes was opened as a pub around 1818 by Samuel Hopkinson, a local farmer and scythe maker, to serve traffic on the new Baslow to Greenhill turnpike.
Nowadays, the pub is a bustling, stylish watering hole and eatery in the heart of Totley, with close proximity to the beautiful Peak District National Park.

Very poor experience of the restaurant today. Food was awful and had to send one meal back uneaten it was so bad. A £16 roast was cold, overcooked and even had tinned carrots not warmed through properly. Kids veg was brown and floppy so clearly very old. The uneaten meal was taken off the bill but no attempt to apologise for the fact that one person hadn't eaten and offer any reduction in other items on bill. Some other meals were ok but small and overpriced. Used to love this place but won't be returning.
Great place to stay !! service was outstanding, staff greeted us upon arrival, quick easy check in ,we was shown to our room, it was perfect, big tv, on suite, balcony with chairs and table, full option of heating…..we went down for dinner service from the table fast hot really nice food, we had a lovely night .
Went for Sunday lunch when we couldn’t get in at a nearby well known pub. The food and beer was very good. The vegetables were great and cooked just right for our preference - not cooked to death like other places. The Yorkshire puddings are excellent and a volonte. Service is a bit slow on a Sunday with it being busy so we had to assert ourselves a little.
Had the 3 roast dinner which came with 2 meats, we were told this in advance, but the 2 individual slices of meat were really tiny. The veg and everything else on the plate was barely warm, no stuffing though was listed on the menu. We asked for more gravy which didnt come so had a cold dry dinner, really really poor meals. We were offered free desserts as compensation which my partner and son had but I passed on. Used to be lovely here but not today
We called on the off chance without a booking (party of 10!!) 3pm on a Saturday afternoon, hoping we could eat and we were not disappointed. We were seated, together, straight away and the two gentlemen serving us were lovely and very helpful. The food was very good and served very well too. The pub itself is decorated very nicely and it has a lovely atmosphere. We will certainly be going back
