About us

The Captain's Wife was originally Sully House, a house originally owned by a captain. Legend has it that when his wife died, her body was kept in a box that was mistaken for treasure and stolen. A small fleet of fishing vessels were located at Swanbridge harbour and it is likely that that the row of cottages, that became the pub, were later the traditional homes of the local fishermen and their families.

A country pub oozing rural charm and rustic character, our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.

Whether you are planning dinner with friends or Sunday lunch with family, book a table online and enjoy some quality time with those you love the most.

Nice atmosphere, delicious cocktails. Dog friendly and thoughtful about them. Roast was a bit tasteless, next time will try something else.

The food was absolutely stunning and very reasonable. We did the 3 course Mon-Thurs lunch menu for just shy of £20, and it was absolutely worth it! The service was fantastic and the scenes are beyond picturesque! Definitely recommend for a lovely bit of pub grub!

A lovely pub, great location with nice views. We went for Sunday lunch, which was really nice & a very generous portion. Plenty of meat, potatoes & veg! Great value for money & the staff were fab, in particular, our server, Louise.

Quite enjoyed it here, sat inside the restaurant to enjoy my night. The food was very tasty, I had a streak which was cooked perfectly, and my partner had the burger, which he said was lovely. The onion rigs were really nice, too. Pig in blankets wasn't very nice for a side. We both enjoyed the house sodas, both passion fruit and Raspberry. Didn't feel like drinking on this occasion. But I had so many choices for drinks and alcohol. My only problem was the long wait times, was sat inside for about an hour and half just for 2 mains and 1 dessert. Where we sat, the waiters didn't come over and checkup on us, so we had to keep going bar to request our waiter.

Stunning restaurant with glamorous interior with a heritage feel. Numerous dining areas and tables to cater for all size groups. Good menu with choices to cover vegetarians and meat lovers. Recommend the prawn cocktails as a starter, fish for main served with mash. Good drinks options with bar on site offering beers on tap, bottles of wine and champagne. Bathrooms clean. Need a car to get there with parking on site. Love your local guide- M❤️ Follow or like me please if helpful
