About us

The Knowle Inn was the only licensed house in the parish in the 16th century. It was held by one family between 1618 and 1657, and was said to be used by travellers on the highway. It was part of Bawdrip Manor until it was sold to the tenant in 1770. It was then called The Bull but regained its original name by 1806.

Local beers are always available from Breweries such as Otter Brewery, as well as a selection of Lagers and Ciders. We are now serving Roger Wilkins traditional farmhouse cider on the Hand Pull.

All our food is homemade and cooked to order, why not try our Steak & Ale Pie, a Meaty Mixed Grill or the popular Sea Food Chowder.

Our beer garden has its own micro climate due to the walls that surround it and its location nestled in the side of Knowle Hill. We are famous for our floral displays in the summer months and have been awarded for our garden by the Daily Telegraph. The beer garden has a fish pond as well as a large covered smoking area. In the warmer weather we host Barbecues and often have live music outside.

Went for a family meal, portions are on the small size. We ordered Thai mussels and prawns from the specials - this is not what I would consider Thai style at all - it's just mussels and prawns with a sweet chilli dipping sauce poured over the top. Children's cheese burger had grated cheddar on top and the sirloin steak was thin and fatty. Staff friendly and helpful, environment clean and pleasant but I think the kitchen needs reviewing.

Food not as good as it used to be.as you can see the pastry was very hard and the meat was very bland. service very good. staff very clean and friendly.i believe it as been taken over by new landlady.

Went for lunch while on a circular walk. Good menu of mainly pub classics plus a specials board with 6 or so extra items. Not expensive. Probably not the widest choice to evaluate on as we had 2 beef lasagna, 1 veggie lasagna and a beef and ale pie. All good sizes, nice veg or salad and tasty. Will be going again if I'm in the area.

Great food, great atmosphere, turn up early if you want Sunday roast, it gets busy and I don't believe you can make a reservation, however if you do miss out on the roast there are other options available from the menu and specials board so you won't go hungry.
