Purchased by Robert Hunter in 1915 the New Inn has been passed down the generations, firstly to son Denis and then grandson Rod. Today run by Debbie Hunter, Martin Davies and Tom Davies, the New Inn is still a traditional country pub with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, good food, a selection of fine wines and good beer.
Set in the picturesque countryside village of Hook-a-Gate, just three miles south of Shrewsbury, The New Inn offers a friendly, relaxing atmosphere throughout. With a choice of seating inside, from the traditional stoned floor bar with real open fireplace, through to the cosier lounge bar area or our spacious restaurant for the more intimate occasion. Outside, choose from the variety of seating and patio areas to enjoy summer to the full.
Really cosy, friendly well established village pub and restaurant. Palace to take your time to enjoy a good meal. Best to ring and book a table.
A friend and I had Sunday lunch here and what a treat! There was a choice of beef or turkey, or you could have a mixed roast, half and half. Also a vegetarian option was available. We had a dish of fresh vegetables, cauliflower, carrots and red cabbage to accompany the meal. Lots of meat, parsnips, stuffing, pig in blanket, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, gorgeous tasty gravy, cranberry sauce, horseradish sauce, we had the lot between us. I had profiteroles for dessert, two very large ones with a large scoop of ice cream. We also had two pots of tea and the total bill was ยฃ43. Amazing value. The service was great too from Martin and a lady who was doing the bar and serving the meals. The meal was so tasty, we will be back and I canโt recommend it highly enough.
Lovely little local pub close to where we stayed in Hook-a-gate, made us and our two dogs feel very welcome. Service was very attentive, friendly and polite. Food was excellent and portions were generous with very reasonable prices! Would definitely return and recommend. Thankyou to the team ๐
This is such a lovely place. The waiter was lovely and he recommended my main meal and dessert which were both so delicious. Got nothing bad to say about this place. I'll definitly be back!
Fantastic little pub. Beautiful food all cooked fresh to order. Landlord and staff attentive and really welcoming, nothing is too much trouble for them. Everywhere clean. What more can I say. A country village pub run how it should be. If I could give more stars I would. Don't ever change, you do a fantastic job ๐

Re-opened in early 2018 after a transfer to a local Community Interest Company, which now runs this community pub. Tastefully re-decorated, giving the large U-shaped bar a bright and clean look.
