My favourite Sunday roast in Bristol plus cosy authentic pub and lovely helpful stuff. Booking needed.

The best. By far and away the outstanding pub in the area. A proper traditional English pub with excellent menu and excellent range of normal beer and lager. Brilliant atmosphere. So Christmassy last night, packed full but no stag blokes or annoying people. Just a great crowd in a great pub. Cannot fault it. Try to get there and brave the cold and sit out front on their terrace if you have to. The ultimate winter English traditional pub.

A Cask Marque pub that knows about it's beers. 7 hand pulls and only two from the owning GK chain. Some of menu is pricey, but Steak&Ale for £13-45 is good these days. Friendly guy in charge of bar knew all about the Cask Marque ale trail week, and Camra discount. This is a pub I've not previously had on our Bristol Crawl, but that has now changed. Enjoyed my session during Bristol Sea Shanty weekend. Thanks.

It was pissing down rain so we stopped in to dry off and have a final gin and tonic before heading back to the hotel. This is a nice pub. Big fat leather furniture. Super nice people behind the bar. The beer selection looked good so I decided to have a half pint of Entourage IPA from the Bristol Beer Factory.

Unfamiliar with Bristol, we wanted somewhere to eat on a chilly February Monday so popped in about 3pm to enquire about booking a table for later. The small pub was empty but the barman recommended booking so we did. We returned about 6pm and found it heaving - we were so glad we had booked. The meal was delicious: piping hot and cooked to perfection. This is a Greene King pub, not always the most salubrious, but this pub, awarded 'Bristol's Best Pub' for the year 2022, is an exception. There was a wide range of beers to choose from.
