Run by landlord and landlady Rod and Janette Lamont – who have over 40 years experience in the trade – and supported by a loyal and well-trained staff team, it has long established itself as the hub of the local community and one of the best dining pubs in the county.
Arguably the best pub/restaurant in Dorset, for service, for atmosphere and most importantly quality of food and drinks. When you arrive at the Saxons Arms you are always greated with a warm welcoming reception, the staff, without exception, are polite, courteous and nothing is to much trouble for them to accommodate. The Saxons is always well attended, so I'd say booking ahead is always a good idea, this leads to a great atmosphere when eating and drinking here. Now the food, I have eaten here many times, be it stopping off for a light bite after a long walk in the area, being taken here by my family for my 50th, or as quite often, just coming here as our venue of choice. The food is always exceptional, great value, superbly cooked and a very good choice for all palettes. We have never yet been let down by the Saxon Arms and would have absolutely no problems recommending to anyone. We live an hours drive from here but always look forward to our trips to the Saxons, if your in the area and are looking for a great place to eat, you will certainly not be disappointed. Thanks to all the staff again for yet another memorable meal last night.
Have been here for lunch on several occasions, always for lunch. A good menu range with at least half the choices available in small portions. The meals are always very tasty and a good portion. Always willing to bag up uneaten meals.
A brilliant find. Amazing young bar staff who are extremely personable. Great reasonably priced food, good beers and a beautiful location. Really nothing at all to fault. Oh, and dog friendly too!
Fab place to eat and drink just off the beaten track outside Dorchester. Food was excellent and the service matched. I had Bouillabaisse, which was homemade and tasty. Large free car park.
It is my sisters favourite place to eat so what a great place to surprise her on her 65th birthday meal with her husband and mother in law. We arrived early to dress the table and the cake was taken to the kitchen for after dessert. The meal was amazing and great portion size too so when the cake finally arrived it was enough to have that slither and take the rest home. Duncan the staff member was our waiter, barman and general bring out the cake man so his service was 100% and the event went off without a hitch. Well worth the visit and would recommend a return.
