About us

Sam's Chop House was established in 1868 by Samuel Studd, brother to Thomas Studd of Mr Thomas's Chop House. For over 150 years we have served the heart of Manchester with the very best of British food and drink. Though our owners are no longer the Studds, we are still an independent family business. And we love this city.

The. corned beef hash was fantastic. I heard about this place when it was recommended by Radcliffe and Mac o’Knee on radio 6. I also had the best white bait I have had in years. Can’t wait to go back and try the rest of the menu!

We went for the first time to Sam’s Chop House, and the food was delicious, really tasty, ( I would rather have had vegetables with the steak but this wasn’t an option), the service was very good, and a really nice atmosphere.

Great bar. Always a warm friendly welcome. Nice to have a drink with Mr Lowry at the bar. Decent price and good choice of drinks within the city centre. We didn't eat here but the food looked and smelt gorgeous!

If you are looking for traditional English pub/restaurant , with traditional English food, look no further. This is the place!!! The best food we had during our stay in Manchester was in this restaurant. Service was fantastic, which, I might say, was not the case everywhere we ate, unfortunately. I highly recommend it. P.S. appetizers didn’t make the photo 😅

Excellent Sunday roast! We got the chicken and beef one, and both were very tasty. When you come in, you have the feeling to be in a typical old pub. Service was very friendly, professional and fast. Nice selection of beers.
