The Wheatsheaf is an historic hostelry in the heart of Oakham, Rutland’s County Town.
You’ll find us right in the beautiful conservation area on Northgate. This is the original High Street of the town dating back to the 1600s. We’re close to the Parish Church of All Saints, the traditional Market Place and historic Castle which dates back to Norman times.
Choose from three charming rooms in The Wheatsheaf, each with a different, characteristic style. The convivial bar has two real fires and cosy corners where you can meet with friends. The lounge offers relaxed style where you can dine and chat. The conservatory is a quiet retreat which opens onto the charming garden.
Dine from our ever-changing menu of tasty traditional home-cooked food. Locally sourced ingredients are used wherever possible to offer you fresh, seasonal dishes. Look out for our specials board for the very latest choices from our chef.
Play traditional pub games indoors, petanque in our purpose-built pitch, or take part in a pub quiz. We have an ever-changing programme of events, often raising funds for charities nominated by our customers.

Back again to our favourite place to eat and relax. Had the sweet potato and chickpea curry which was homemade and delicious. So nice to be back. Both log fires were on, super friendly service. We can't wait to try their Xmas menu which starts from 4th Dec :)
Fantastic homemade food and great service. Just had the best steak and ale pie, amazing.
We were recommended to come here by another establishment in the town as sadly they weren't able to do food until later in the day. As soon as we entered the Wheatsheaf it felt welcoming and friendly. The food was delicious and homemade. The service was very good and even though it got busier during our visit, noticed a calm and controlled way the staff were. Our thanks goes to Kerry who is the Landlady and will definitely return here when we come to Oakham.
Beautiful pub with garden setting and plenty of sun/shade options. We ate from lunch menu and found everything delicious and fresh. Was so nice to have real crackling with my pork roast and cream sauce for veggies was to die for. My wife a vegetarian, had the nut roast which she said was fantastic. Service was excellent and my non-alcoholic “wheat beer” was one of the nicest nons I’ve had.
Stopped off here for a quick drink and they have this gorgeous hidden garden out the back that’s a complete sun trap, it was gorgeous! We ordered bacon, Brie and cranberry baguettes and they were honestly the best I’ve ever had, delicious!
