The Fox and Hounds Hotel is a handsome former 17th Century coaching inn that dominates the Green in the picturesque Rutland village of Exton
The building oozes character, with a number of fireplaces for cosy winter evenings and a pretty garden for lazy summer days. Privately owned, you can be assured of a warm welcome, with every amenity to make your stay a pleasurable one.
The entire building has benefited from a major refurbishment and now offers four boutique hotel luxury rooms. All rooms are ensuite, are individually decorated, and come with broadband internet, Netflix, digital free view, complimentary White Company toiletries, Egyptian cotton linen & bathrobes in the bathrooms, and Espresso coffee and tea making machine. There is also free parking.
Dining at the Fox and Hounds is a treat. Our kitchen is headed up by Omar Palazzolo (Nobu, Tom's Kitchen, The Arts Club), with some exceptional seasonal menus. The bar menu offers a quirky take on the British classics, from share platters to sandwiches. For more formal dining, the restaurant and deck offers Modern European inspired dishes. On Sundays, a traditional menu is served from noon.

My partner and I went to the pub for a drink, they didn’t have any cider to cater to my partners gluten-free needs and said they only had G&Ts. A double G&T and a pint of peroni cost us £16.80. Total rip-off for a village pub. Disappointing as it’s the only option in the area.
A lovely old pub with a nice garden. We sat on the shady patio to eat. The menu has a mixture of Greek dishes and British classics. We chose the Greek. I had a chicken souvlaki and my partner had lamb kleftico. Both very nice, not huge portions but very filling. Food was a little slow to arrive but we were warned of this beforehand. Landlord was friendly, as were many of the customers (dogs included). I am only sad this is not my local pub!
Nice, village rustic old pub/hotel. Courtyard car park, large room with bath & shower, comfy decor and tea/coffee. Freshly cooked, tasty breakfast. Friendly and accommodating staff. Evening meals were very good. Pleasant garden which catches afternoon sun. Great area for walking and cycling. No complaints.
Not much choice on menu for British cuisine. I had roast beef which was chewy and impossible to cut, thin gravy and soggy over cooked vegetables. The others in my party received overcooked, dried chips and not many. Long wait, when we did get our meals and served by the waiter with his belly hanging out from a shirt button that had popped undone. 3 poor main meals, 2 glasses of wine and 2 small soft drinks for £75! Won't be revisiting!
Enjoyed a weekend break here. The owners are friendly and very accommodating. The pub area has a quirky style but a good range of beers and comfy seating. Food was beautiful and freshly cooked. The room was very spacious and very clean. Again the decor was a interesting collection of pieces. Will look forward to visiting time and time again in the future, as this is close to my parents. Many thanks for an enjoyable experience.
