The pub was very quiet at 7pm on Saturday evening so the jolly Christmas ambience we hoped for was lacking. There were only 3 other people at the bar, and another table of 3, but our meals still took well over 30 mins to arrive. Seemingly a party booking took priority. Shame we weren’t told before ordering. When it did arrive, the food was disappointing. No visible chunks of beef in the beef pie and the serving of the beef tagliatelle was rather mean. All 4 bitters were off too. The pub couldn’t help it if there were no customers that evening but there was no excuse for slow service.

Went for dinner on Friday evening with 3 friends and we will not be rushing back. We waited nearly 1 1/2 hours for our meal, some was good some average and some bad. We all agreed though that the hand cut chips were very hard and dry.

Lovely warm friendly pub. Popped in for a drink and lunch after a local hike. Perfect venue for lunch or dinner with family or post hike pit stop. They are very accommodating for both options. It’s got a nice Prime Ministerial connection as the local pub to Chequers so lots of local history. Perfect place and highly recommended

Lovely warm and welcoming pub so handy, after our long Sunday afternoon walk around the Chequers estate last weekend. The Sunday roast was delicious. Service was very friendly, helpful and pleasant. Will definitely visit again. We were intrigued by the portrait gallery of prime ministers through the years, who have stepped out of Chequers to quench their thirst with a pint at this local pub!

Nice looking pub with some good ales however it is very expensive. The deposit system for booking a table of £10 per person is ridiculous and not refundable making bill splitting impossible. The fish and chips tasted nice it was just a small portion.
