Runway 26 – is the cafe and bar at City Airport (Barton), and is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the atmosphere of this historic and busy airport, which was opened on 29th January 1930 as Manchester Airport, the UK’s first municipal airfield licensed by the Air Ministry. Today, the Airfield is thriving with Business and General Aviation and also home to the North West Air Ambulance.
Runway 26 is open to the general public and welcomes visitors of all ages. We serve a variety of hot/cold food, drinks and also have our own licensed bar. We are open Tuesday to Sunday.
A really friendly bar / cafe. Given all the different activities going on around the site, this acts as a lovely place to go to before and after. Staff were lovely and friendly. The ambience was relaxed and nice. You can go for beers after your event or coffee before, but plenty of options for you.
Cracking little bar at Barton aerodrome. Had a quick pit stop here while out on bike and had a coke with some chips. Service was quick and good, will return when in area again. Lots of fun stuff to see as it’s an airport!
Tanya was extremely hospitable, and nothing was too much trouble. Thanks, Tanya. We had the afternoon tea - which was a gift from our daughter. It was hearty and well presented. A busy and cheerful place on a Tuesday afternoon, with the added benefit of the airfield.
If you’re an “avgeek” like me then this is a great location for a meal. Located right in the middle of Barton (City) Airport with views over the airfield. The food is great - £10 for a full English including brew. We treated my Dad for his Birthday (in the photo) There’s a kiddy play area next door and easy access to the aircraft viewing areas. Plenty of seats outside for beers and burgers in the summer. Recommended.
Amazing food and drink at a reasonable price!. This venue is excellent if you have children with a large play area, food was amazing and the kids loved the ice creams and aircraft and helicopters flying around. staff went the extra mile to help out, overall a 10/10 from me and the kids!, will definitely be returning soon!.

One of the Bridgwater Canal’s most impressive features was the Barton Aqueduct, built to carry the waterway over the River Irwell. When self-taught engineer James Brindley dreamt up the idea, it was met with widespread scepticism and nicknamed the ‘Castle
