I can’t praise the Royal Oak and its staff a High enough. There were 15 of us friends having a Christmas meal on the 15 December 2023. The service was perfect. The atmosphere was homely. The Christmas decorations were beautiful. The food came out piping hot. All orders were correct. Then came the extras…..vegetables, gravy boats, bread sauce, cranberry sauce…..everything you would expect on a Christmas dinner. The staff were lovely and always watching and waiting to see iff any one needed more drinks or anything. The only thing I might mention is I think it would have been nice to have a Christmas cracker for each guest. But generally it was a great night enjoyed by everyone. Thanks To The Royal Oak.
Very welcoming as we were worried about our muddy dog!! Good local beverages to choose from as well. Nice fireplaces to keep you warm on a cold day. And the food was great. We visited at lunchtime and had a tomato and mozzarella sandwich and a flatbread with prosciutto and garlic and we could not fault either. We drank a cider called ‘badger’ and a bitter too both of which were great! Very highly recommend
Food is of a consistently high quality, but today it wasn't hot when brought to us, one star lost for that. The amount of ice cream accompaniment on the desserts is a bit stingy for the price - not even one scoop. Service is efficient when it comes, but too often there are long gaps when no-one shows - it took quite a while for us to get mint sauce and horseradish brought to us because no-one was around to ask (should have been brought with the meals in the first place!). Room for improvement. Food is very good though. Recommended
I've been to the Royal Oak about 5 or 6 times. It's a really nice venue. I first went years ago for a workmates leaving do in which we had the venue at the rear of the garden. It's a really nice area. Other than that I've had a couple of meals in the inside restaurant and a couple of meals outside. The food is very good. I went recently and my main issue is that the cost has gone up. It was £18 for a fish and chips. It's a very good fish and chips but that's quite expensive for this type of venue. Another slight negative is that we were sat in the garden eating and we were the only people out there. And so we could hear the kitchen staff shouting and swearing at each other. Which isn't ideal when you are there with a child. It is a really nice venue and good food, worth trying.
Amazing food with generous servings! Large pork chop nice and tender with mash with an infused twist! Well presented and very reasonable priced. Well worth the trip out to it, just be sure to ask for the WiFi password as signal is spotty.
