The Royal Oak is a Traditional Scottish Pub, where a warm welcome awaits, It is Edinburgh's premier Folk music venue
The Royal Oak is a real Scottish pub that has made its name as a live music venue. Steeped in history and atmosphere it is only a few minutes walk from the Royal Mile. With a fine tradition of musical entertainment every single night of the week you can hear mainly folk songs with a mix of other acoustic styles. The Royal Oak not only gives visitors the chance to hear some great tunes, but it also acts as a focal point for many of Edinburgh’s traditional musicians.
Small, cozy and very interesting. The night I went to this bar, a man, apparently local, was playing the guitar and singing songs from Scotland. The beer is good and there are many options. It was fun and very surprising.
Loved this spot. Small, busy, friendly no make that very friendly. Open mike bar with local musicians grabbing their spot. Definitely coming back here. Just with I could play the guitar it’s that sort of place that you just want to be involved
We went there to see live music but it was so full, it was standing room only. It's a really small pub.
Fantastic folk bar visited by both locals and tourists. It’s certainly not very big and it gets very busy in the evenings. It was really difficult to leave because the vibe and music were just so good.
Very cozy pub with an amazing live music concept. The singers engage with the people and everyone is free to join to sing or play instruments. In addition, we got some very good information from the bar personnel regarding the several whiskies they offer.
