We visited here tonight (20th January 24) for dinner. The welcome was extremely warm.and friendly and it was a shame that it wasn't busier as it deserves to be! The drinks were great - I had a great beer or two. The food is, as advertised, good pub food. We had starters (soup, mushrooms and pate) which were excellent as were the mains - Gammon, Bangers & Bash and steak. We were too full for dessert unfortunately. I'm not sure where the reviewer that left a 1* review recently went, but it was either a very bad day or insincere review in my opinion - and I don't say that lightly. This is a lovely pub which we will definitely use again, and again as we're in the area often. See you again and thanks for a lovely evening.
We went to this pub because of the images of the food and the previous reviews, it fell far below standard. I heard that the owners are not from the UK and I urge them to try the food, because it is, in its current state to be missed. The food was £30+ a head for food alone, which is high but not above what is expected for Sunday lunch for 3 courses. I appreciate that it was a limited menu, but that in fact gives the kitchen far more grace to get it right. Everything tasted reheated and stale. However, the puddings were great. The starters and mains were terrible. The beef and pork were dry, the vegetables cakey and the sauce a disgusting tasting goup. Service was fine if not shaley.
Had Sunday lunch here, undoubtedly the best vegetarian roast I’ve ever had. I was told the meat versions and the burger were also splendid.
Sat in The Royal Oak after an amazing meal. The flavours were beautifully put together and both the Pork Belly and Sea Bass(Catch of the day) were absolutely delicious and well presented. Well worth the walk into South Cerney. 10/10.
It was a delight to revisit this Pub post a refit. The decor was nice , the staff as always very attentive and run by Paul at the front of house who made our whole dining experience an absolute pleasure. Food portions were decent and price point was met with the quality of food. We would love to visit again and again!
Sorry, we don't have any current news or jobs for this pub.

We do close early or stay open later depending on trade during the winter
initially we are doing a typical strong english pub menu, until the kitchen is fully tested and staff are trained. there are specials available and these change regularly. we are in the middle of making our core menu now and typically this will be Rump Steak at least 28 day matured. Horseshoe Gammon Steak, thick cut half horseshoe not thick bacon. we steak them up after buying in primal cuts. premium Bangers and Bash, which will be made to our recipe once i have found a decent butcher, we use real potatoes not pellets so we bash them with skin on so you get soft lumps and you know youre getting real spuds. Chilli Con Carne, old mexican classic made to my own recipe. Wholetail Scampi, again premium quality . Hunters Chicken, prime fillet wrapped in bacon ,covered with BBQ sauce and melted mature cheddar... our friers are not big enough at the mo to cope with fish but we are trying to buy some , then the classic fish n chips will be on. pasta dishes are readily available and given time can be made to your liking but during busier times this may not be possible so theres usually a choices of 2 sauces to grace your pasta, risotto too is available again made to order. wide choice of homemade burgers and sandwhiches are available. we make our own with no fillers etc so its not an issue for celiacs and when we get a butcher the sausage will be the same. veggie and vegans have a wide choice normally as its made to order. allergies , we just need to know...
Sunday Lunch is readily available, with a choice of roast meats 5 or 6 veg homemade yorkshire pudding and real ale gravy . 1 , 2 or 3 course deals available . bookings preffered but not essential. back with more soon.
