About us
Dating back to the early 1800's the pub was taken over by the Suddaby family in 1879 and remained in the family for 140 years until it was bought by us, Lisa and Nick, in July 2019.
The pub has been, and will continue to be sympathetically updated since the takeover and provides a warm, cosy feel, especially in the cold months with the open fire back in use.
We currently have 2 letting bedrooms in the annexe to the rear of the pub away from traffic noise. These rooms have been completely refurbished with new beds, mattresses, and furniture and provide a warm and quiet retreat. Please note that our rooms may not be suitable for people with mobility issues as they are accessed via a staircase.
We are now hosting live music mid month where we can and at the end of every month. Most of these gigs will be held in our unique gig room to the rear of the pub. We also host an open mic night every second Tuesday of the month which is proving very popular.
We host a quiz night every Wednesday starting at 9pm and all money raised goes to a nominated charity.
Our food service has been put on hold for the time being but we are hoping to resume this in the near future.
The pub is family and dog friendly and we have a lovely beer garden to the rear.
We are located next to W H Smith on Wheelgate. We have a private car park to the rear of the property which is accessed off Old Maltongate, turn off is at the set of garages near the traffic lights.

Food & drink
We are not currently offering a food service but hopefully this will resume soon.
We have recently had all new, state of the art cellar and dispense equipment installed to ensure our great selection of draught beers are served exactly how they should be!
We offer a range of real ales with Leeds Pale being our constant ale and rotate a selection of beers from local breweries on the other 3 handpull pumps. Recent guests include Wold Top Headland Red and Best Bitter, Camerons Strongarm, Great Newsomes Jems Stout and Theakstones Lightfoot to name but a few.
