Community owned country pub situated in the heart of Slaley village in rural Northumberland. The Grade 2 listed building dates back to 1675 and has a traditional bar, separate dining room and accommodation.
You will receive a warm welcome from our Manager, Tracey, and her team, serving you with food freshly cooked to order, complemented by a great selection of real ales and wines. Our chef, Bernard, offers a tasty menu selection with seasonal daily specials. Traditional Sunday lunch is also served.

Built in the 17th century, it’s a cosy little hideaway in a village close to Slaley Forest. The decor is traditional (settles, wooden beams and a solid bar), the beer from a variety of local breweries including Allendale and High House Farm (all cask beers come from within a 10-mile radius). The menu reflects the mixed tastes of a rural community, from black bean vegetable stir fry to a whale of a battered fish with chips. There’s a disused nuclear bunker close by, but the Rose & Crown is a much more life-affirming attraction. wn.
Had a lovely boxing day meal. Even though the restaurant was very busy, the waiting staff were all calm, friendly and polite. Turkey lunch was tasty and filling.
Went for Sunday lunch with my brother, great food, we had traditional Sunday lunch (roast beef, Yorkshire pudding and all the trimmings) good choice on the menu including Venison stew. Excellent pint of bitter from the hand pump. Very friendly staff, views great and dog friendly in the bar. Community run pub - fantastic.
A great find. We stayed overnight here while attending a function at Slayley Hall. A great welcome on arrival and very accommodating. The accommodation is very clean, comfortable, with some lovely touches and is separate from the pub so late access wasn't a problem. (If you need a taxi from slayley hall, book well in advance). Was passing and stopped for a quick beer. Very friendly young woman behind the bar, very welcoming to my dog (treat and water offered) and a well-kept pint, too. I'll definitely stop next time I'm in the area.
Found this by accident but what an amazing find. The food was outstanding, very well priced and the service could not have been better, nothing was too much to ask for from Emma and the rest of the staff in the bar and restaurant. The menu had a great selection and also the specials board. This is a community run pub and we were given the story of how it came about 10 years ago. I'm sure it will be a great night on you're anniversary celebration on the 19th August. Thanks for a lovely evening.

There is a regular MENU of starters, light bites, mains and sweets and many pub favourites are included such as Steak & Ale Pie, Fish & Chips and Steak.
Traditional Sunday lunches are served and we also have a Specials Board which is changed daily to provide even more choice.
Our dishes are freshly cooked to order and use locally sourced meat and vegetables in season.
