About us

Architects drawings were completed in August 2014 and presented to the planning department of Cheshire East. The Roebuck is a grade 2 listed building dating back to circa 1708. This makes it the oldest Inn in Mobberley. The plan was to restore the Roebuck Inn back to its origins as a cosy inn with six rustic ‘boutique’ bedrooms, an intimate ‘neighbourhood bistro’ with tiered terraces and garden.

Planning was finally granted at the end of March 2015 and we took the decision to start the restoration works at the end of October 2015 rather than spoiling our neighbour’s summer with building works going on. We then applied to alter some of our plans to ensure the restoration would be even more sympathetic to the building which gave us a little delay.

Back in 1911 the Roebuck was a ‘residential inn’ when Mill Lane was the main road through the village of Mobberley. The building had recently fallen in to disrepair and previous schemes had spoiled this once famous inn but we have now opened as we intended in late May but weirdly on the very day…24th May that we opened our first pub in Mobberley, the Bulls Head, straight opposite the Roebuck Inn.

We are delighted to be rescuing yet another great building. As always we hope to have given the village of Mobberley and surrounding towns and villages a restoration to be really proud of with something that will complement our other pubs in Mobberley, the award winning Bulls Head and the Church Inn.

Lovely cosy pub with a very good boeuf bourguignon. One of the waitresses is half French and we live in France. The posters of the circuit des remparts are in the toilet area and races are held in Angoulême at our doorstep.

I had the Sunday roast, it looked lovely and plenty of veg and beef. The problem was hard roasties and the beef had loads of grisl, we had to ask for steak knives, non the less it wasn't pleasant to try and eat and cut out all the grisl. They were so busy it took a long time to be served and we were told when our desert arrived that the next sitting were waiting for the table. We were not pleased as it was them that were slow in serving us. They have let themselves down as it's a beautiful country pub. We won't be going back.

Excellent food, drink and very welcoming staff. The room was also well furnished and surprisingly quiet, given the popularity and bustling nature of the restaurant below.

Ate Friday 1st. Very busy, good service. Had Beef Bourguignon and Dauphinoise potatoes. Beef could have done with another half hours cooking and potatoes were dry.

Visited here with some friends for a Sunday roast and so glad we did! Lovely unique pub with a great atmosphere l, friendly staff and good food. Only constructive / reason for 4 stars. Our seat happened to be a high table next to the kitchen, I imagine for drinks it’s great but for food - you are regularly being interrupted by staff and people paying. We also asked for water for the table 3x and it kept not arriving.
