With a large riverside garden, nestled at the foot of Pensford Viaduct and almost encircled by the River Chew we are one of the valleys best kept secrets!
Our pub is proud to be a Freehouse and has built a solid reputation for providing fresh homecooked food and local real ales and cider. On top of all that, we are proud to have just begun rearing our own meat!
We provide a family friendly, fun, homemade-esque and even romantic setting for all, with illustrated outside walls, a growing troupe of farmyard animals and views to die for. If you don't have a car, we are only a 25 minute bus ride from the centre of Bristol and on Route 410 of the Avon Cycleway.
Lovely place, with a great garden and beautiful view of the viaduct. It was drizzling when we visited, but overall it was still very enjoyable and cosy under the tent.
Only stopped for a quick drink, but service was good and welcoming. Sat outside and enjoyed the view of the viaduct and the sound of the wier. Will definitely return to sample the food which looked really good.
Beautiful beer garden 😍 Although we didn't eat from what we saw food looked very good 😋 Service was warm and friendly 🤩
Nice pub with good Sunday roast. Seems to be family run. Was seated at the front of the pub which was basic but comfortable, and nice with an open fire, though the staff's repeated attempts to keep it going/relight it did amuse us. Service was alright. I have to say what stood out by a mile was the food. I ordered the pork belly roast, and my partner ordered the rare beef roast, and we shared the greens/cauliflower cheese side, and herb stuffing balls. The portion sizes are huge, but absolutely delicious! You had better come with an appetite! Afterwards we walked through the garden and did a circular walk around the viaduct. Definitely would visit again.
This is just about one of the most quintessentially British country pubs in the West, set in the most unique location. Nestled underneath the disused viaduct The Rising Sun boasts a sizeable and well thought-out beer garden which also has direct access to the weir and river below. Spend the afternoon drinking Tribute or Thatcher's and then hitch up your trousers and go for a paddle in the cooling water. After that, walk across the weir and go for a stroll under the viaduct and the fields beyond. Just magic!
