Bed and Breakfast Accommodation in Exmoor National Park at The Rest and Be Thankful Inn and restaurant in the centre of Wheddon Cross, the highest village on Exmoor.
Our B and B is a perfect place to stay and a great base from which to explore the beautiful Exmoor National Park.
The Inn was originally a staging post for travellers on their way between Dunster and Dulverton, and you will still find a warm welcome, good food and extremely comfortable accommodation awaiting you there today, almost 200 years later!
Whether you are looking for a bed and breakfast for a relaxing break in beautiful surroundings on Exmoor, or a more active holiday, the Rest and Be Thankful Inn and Exmoor are sure to meet your every need.
The fantastic Exmoor National Park is home to Snow Drop Valley. Tours and walks to Snow Drop Valley can be accessed from the bus leaving right from our door. The B&B also has enviable access to the West Somerset Railway less than 10 miles away.
If you are looking for a walking, cycling, or fly-fishing break, we will do everything we can to provide you with the perfect holiday. There is a secure store at the Inn, where cycles and other equipment can be kept, and we also have a drying room for wet clothes and boots.
Horse riding and hunting can be arranged with prior notice.

Visited last evening, yes it is open on a Monday, indeed open 7 days a week, with 2 friends who live locally and who rated the Inn very highly. Possibly the warmest welcome ever in a pub, shown to our table and drinks order taken, giving us several minutes to select food from the extensive menu. Other members of staff similarly friendly and with great senses of humour deliver the 4 different main courses, barely a scrap of anything left uneaten, then followed by differing selections from the dessert board, again with the same resulting empty bowls and dishes. Thankyou to the whole team for making it a really great evening.
The most delicious Sunday carvery. Lunchtime and evening service. Amazing friendly staff. Best to book. We are lucky enough to live quite near and have returned a number of times. Puddings are exceptional and homemade. We are yet to try the loaded fries which a friend has recommended. A great destination or stop off for longer journeys.
Family owned pub, personal service and always welcoming. We come back every year for a meal and it's always the same. Village centre location, nice food, quality/price correct. Thank you Landlord.
Visited completely by chance after our coach broke down. I can't praise the staff enough. Despite having 45 people arrive unannounced they just rolled up thier sleeves and got on with the job. They were excellent 👍. And by the way it's a lovely little pub 🍻.
The owners of this establishment are quite simply lovely. There were exceptional circumstances that meant we couldn’t get an evening meal after a long day hiking. After being collected at the end of our walk we were given the keys and a taxi was ordered so we could get to another local pub. The room was perfect and we were provided with a hearty breakfast. A visit we will never forget!

The Royal Oak Exmoor is the original and the oldest of all the Royal Oaks in the area. Originally a 12th Century Farmhouse it has a fascinating history and today it's a traditional Country Inn with 4 star accommodation.
