We wanted a smart community pub with great fresh food where eaters and drinkers alike are looked after with the same friendly and professional service.
We think pubs are really for adults! However well behaved younger children are very welcome seated at a table in the bar up to 7pm and in the restaurant until 7.30pm. We do have high chairs available, a kids menu and baby change facility.
Well behaved dogs on a lead are welcome in the bar area Monday to Friday lunchtimes up to 6pm and in the garden at any time – please be aware that your pet may be a hazard to unsuspecting customers in a busy pub!
We have a car park and are only 15 mins walk from Woking Station. From the station you can get directly to Clapham Junction, Waterloo, Guildford & Basingstoke as well as the south coast.
Why not combine your visit with a trip to The New Victoria Theatre or the cool Lightbox art gallery We are also just down the road from Horsell common, made famous by HG Wells’ gripping story War of the Worlds.

Love the red lion, have been going here for years. The service and atmosphere is always great, and the food is incredible. The garden is also lovely in the summer. It tends to get busy most days so recommend booking for busier periods.
We had a team Christmas Lunch here and were all very impressed by the food and service. We were a party of 19, and the ease of booking, pre-ordering and making alterations to the booking lead to a very good first impression. I had to call a couple of times to increase the number of attendees, and on both occasions this was very easy to do. On the day, service was highly attentive, and the staff were both welcoming and accommodating. We had an extra person join us unexpectedly and this was kindly accommodated. The food was equally good, with all dietary needs catered for. I'd highly recommend a visit.
The food is usually decent here, though quite pricey, mind you, where isn't? Service was a little slow as we were a big group so had to wait till tables that came after us got served. We had a small child with us and they has a kid's meal, but no colouring books or anything to entertain her. As a family pub I was a little disappointed by that. Otherwise, good place for a Sunday roast with generous servings of roast spuds.
We had a problem with the reservation, I made a reservation twice through the website but never received confirmation. At least we sat at the bar and tried the roast, the food was good and fast, the cauliflower cheese was very tasty.
The food is of average quality and could be a tad more refined. That said, the staff provided impressively good service which is surely a plus.
