Had the Liver & Bacon as you don’t see that on menus nowadays- it was great and the vegetable selection on the side really lifted it to a more modern dish - great flavours. (Courgettes , green beans and peppers) had sticky toffee pudding for desert which was so nice I ate it all but should’ve only eaten half the size. We’d share a desert next time. My husband had the gammon egg and chips and really enjoyed it. Same desert and same comment.

I've been here several times and the latest time was hopefully the last (unfortunately). Visually, it's what's you'd expect...A local pub with a traditional feel. Nice looking. My family and I arrived on a Sunday afternoon and it was absolutely rammed. I appreciate it's popular with the locals but the pub have been so keen on fitting in as many people it's resulted in poor service... 1) I ordered the mushroom burger. It came out quickly but it was cold and they'd forgotten to add cheese. I raised this but had to dismantle the burger in order for the waitress to believe me. Finally agreeing that they'd forgotten to add any, the waitress took the burger back but brought out a plate with two slices of cold cheese on 😂😭 2) My partner and I kept on having to get up during our meal because the tables were crammed in so tightly. 3) We'd booked the table but we were turfed out and had to scoff our deserts because they'd promised the table to another customer. Pretty poor really. Service poor. Food and atmosphere unexceptional.

I've been to the Red Lion many times since Jake and Lindsay and took over, and have not been disappointed once. The draught beer is cold every time and they have plenty of options. They had a few oktoberfest beers that were really good. It was exciting to have a bigger selection for that time. The food is well- prepared, cooked, and served. The soup is always piping hot, but not too hot! Their tagliatelle dish is to die for. I've even given a chance to some of their vegetarian options although I'm not vegetarian myself and they were delicious! The menu has options for everyone, even the kiddos, without being over or underwhelming. Dessert is a must at this pub! Their sticky toffee pudding MELTS in your mouth. The staff are always warm and welcoming and ready to accommodate. The wait staff are friendly and keep themselves available to customers throughout their meals. The bar staff are friendly and entertaining. I usually show go alone but having someone to chat to whilst I drink my pint is a treat! I will go back time and time again! Highly recommended!

Came here for a Mother’s Day meal as a party of seven. We had a table booked for 12:30 and was shown in straight away which was great. The waitress explained that if we wanted to pay separately we would need to order our drinks at the bar because they didn’t want to have to split the cheques, and baring in mind there’s seven of us, this wouldn’t be very convenient. After we’d finished our starters, the same waitress then came and told us “Just to let you know you’ve got about 45 mins left on your table before another party comes in.” As you can imagine, considering we hadn’t even had our mains yet and potentially then wanted desserts, we found this quite rude and unprofessional. If there’d been a time limit on the table we should have been told this on arrival, not when there’s less than an hour to go and we haven’t even eaten mains yet. After eating mains and desserts, another waitress came over and said “Yeah when you’re ready we need the table now.” We didn’t even have the bill, and we were well aware that there was someone else waiting, but frankly it wasn’t really our fault, and we couldn’t control the speed of the service. We sat waiting for the bill for ten minutes, before she came over AGAIN and asked how long we’d be! It was at this point that I said “Well if you wanna bring the bill over we might be a bit quicker..?”. She then decided to tell us we had to pay at the bar here, which would have been helpful to know prior to ordering so we could’ve just got up when we were done. An additional point to add is there are NO prices listed anywhere for drinks nor carvery or any of the specials, so it’s a bit of a guessing game as to what you’re going to end up paying. Overall, the food was really lovely, and the pub itself was in a gorgeous quiet village which was a nice change to our busy hometown, however the service lacked professionalism and had we been made aware of the clearly overbooked afternoon service that was running, we’d have made sure we did all we could to ensure we didn’t overrun. Would return, but NOT on a weekend where I’m sure we’d be rushed along again.
