About us

The Feather Star, Ale House & Record Shop

After 4 years in our teeny tiny ale house on St John street, an opportunity arose that we couldn’t refuse! You can now find us in the main bar of the Red Lion Hotel. We have even more speciality real ale, serving five cask ales from the best local and regional breweries. With our wall of taps we can now offer up to 13 craft beers, lager and 5 real ciders.

We have brought our little vinyl record store with us and continue to sell quality used vinyl alongside new reissues.

Having joined forces with our friends at Umami Restaurant (across the archway) we can offer bar snacks or you can bring their takeaway food in to enjoy, or even take drinks to their restaurant to accompany their delicious food.

We worry about the environment so have switched to carbon neutral heating and energy, eco waste management, environmentally sound cleaning products. We re always thinking of new was to reduce, reuse, recycle and refuse, if you have any innovations let us know.

Why not make a night of it and stay upstairs in the hotel, to book ring Sarah on 07979912407 or Chris on 07944932665.

You can also see live music, talks and art in the Haarlem Artspace gallery upstairs in the Red Lion Hotel.

Great quirky unique place in the heart of Wirksworth. Well kept beers, wood burning stove, bohemian décor all add to the experience. Outside, the hilltop garden offers views of the surrounding area. Never a dull moment there always seems to be something going on ... Many thanks, will be coming again & again...

Though no food served you can get food anywhere and bring in. Also there is a very good small restaurant opposite. Always a good selection of ales, craft keg and a real cider or two. Interesting vinyl selection for sale and always a turntable behind the bar playing something.

Quirky with ramshackle outdoors sitting areas. Limited beer choice at first glance but had a nice pint of Barnsley Bitter.

Stumbled across this pub back in June whilst visiting the local area. Really quirky pub to visit with random decor scattered around the place, including the toilets where there are pump clips the walls. Constantly looking around whilst having a pint or two. Great selection of drinks and staff were very nice too. Great outdoor space too! Hope to visit again soon!

Is under renovation so some way to go, especially on entering the hotel. Although, quirky and extremely Comfortable bed, lots of nice touches, good towels, the usual tea coffee biscuits, bottled water. The room was clean. The water in the shower was hot. If you want to eat at the on site restaurant 'Unami" book in advance as it gets busy and the food is good. The Full English breakfast was amazingly good. The staff are extremely helpful in the hotel bar and restaurant. They cannot do enough to make you welcome. A great base for walkers, visiting friends etc. In Wirksworth. Iook forward to going back.
