A large three star hotel that started life as a coaching inn in the mid 17th century. There are two large rooms, one containing the main bar and in the other a cosy lounge bar with leather sofas and a wood panelled fireplace. Food is served all day up to 9pm. Note the imposing red lion that is situated above the front door. The guest beers are normally from local breweries.
Absolutely fantastic carvery lunch! Popped in by myself and was served by the lovely bar staff. Great shandy too thank you!
Friendly atmosphere. Great service. Great food and excellent beer . What else do you need . All at very reasonable prices
Had lunch here on a Monday en route back to the Midlands... wasn't much open in Llanidloes to be honest. Anyway....the Red Lion. A bit of dark faded grandeur inside, complete with battered Chesterfields. Nothing wrong with the tuna sandwiches, however, the service was reminiscent of Fawlty Towers. There were hardly any diners, yet the delay on food was surprisingly long. One couple were on the verge of walking out following a hours wait. The staff were flapping around trying keep things in order and seemed to be in need of some managerial direction. Apparently, there was an issue with a lack of kitchen personnel, this being the reason for the sluggish service. In this instance, might have been better closing the kitchen, guys.
Amazing food😁. Pork Belly, Ribs and Lasagnes ordered. They gave me a black berry crumble with ice-cream and cream after orders were closed! Lovely looking pub. Dogs are allowed which is a big plus for me🐕.
Came here for the first Sunday roast of my life. I think the price of £7 for all you can stick on your plate may have ruined other roasts for me from now on. Was it the best food? No. Was there a lot of it? Yes. Was it a cool old building? Yes. Came based on a recommendation as a “cultural experience” and glad I did, so now I’m recommending it to you.
