Any where else but bakewell £80 for the room is £50 overpriced.the room is very dated. But the main problem we had was after call to book a table I was told no bookings on a Sunday night but there will be availability at 7.30. On arriving I asked the only 2 staff what time the kitchen was open until both said 7. At 6.15 I went to get a table and the kitchen was closed at 6. There was only a handful of guests in the rooms so why wasn’t I informed? All other food pubs had shut and ended up eating in the only place open that cost us £100 not the £40 we had budgeted for. When we got back to the pub I complained to the management and I got a lot of eye rolling and attitude.I never once raised my voice and I was very calm as I also work in the service industry. At the end of the conversation I did say her attitude stinks. So as I walked way I heard her say to other Member of staff Her attitude stinks. So I went and told her I heard that and got told you was meant to. Lots of better cleaner places to stay in Bakewell x
I was very pleasantly surprised upon entering this externally unassuming pub. Lovely old pub vibe with tasteful decor. Friendly helpful staff.. We went in on spur of the moment visit on motorbike for a lite bite. So we decided upon 2 starters and sweet potato fries. Had the chilli prawns and pork belly starters. They came nice and fresh with plenty of fresh cut chilli's on. Absolutely delicious they were too and not a stingy portion that I normally expect. They came with sweet chilli jam and chilli mayonnaise. Just the ticket. Great place to visit and not over priced. Definitely recommend a visit.
Nipped in for a bite to eat As visiting the area On menu not much choice When food arrived, a small portion for the price Ham hock was tasty but nothing more to compliment it My husband had chicken wings, which were more like pigeon wings rock soiled and small The service was slow .... it was a nice small pub but I do feel there menu and choice need to be improved
An excellent pub with a very warm welcome and a lovely friendly atmosphere. Great beer and great food too. The ladies behind the bar were and are amazing hosts! Thoroughly recommend 👌
8 of us went in for drinks. No where to sit so we went and sat outside under small heater. Asked if they were doing food but unfortunately full. We got fish & chips & stood eating outside the chippy then one of the group said let's go back to red lion and sit where we were, then go back in for drinks whilst we wait for bus. Member of staff came out & asked us to leave, even though not one other was person there? Then the manager (I presume) came out & was really rude/aggressive towards us. We were really shocked, I asked what harm we were doing & that we had already been in drinking & had also been in her other pub (I believe she runs) the manners! She said we were using her electricity!! She could have just offered to bring us drinks out & make us welcome but she didn't, that's 8 customers lost due to her manner/zero customer service skills. We could understand if it was rammed or people waiting for tables but there was no one there other than us sat in the dark at far end of beer garden. Just rude the way she spoke to us. We are adults, not kids!
