About us

Having obtained the lease for the Berthlwyd/Sea Garden in November 2016 we wanted to create a new dining experience for the area. We decided that the name for the pub needed to have local influence and so were inspired by the cockle industry. The Rake and Riddle are the traditional cockle gathering tools that have been used for over a century in the village of Penclawdd. Our objective was to combine modern flavours with traditional quality with emphasis on using local produce. We feel that we have developed a great casual dining venue at the Rake and Riddle.

This place came recommended to me. Arrived on a Saturday afternoon. Not that busy but food still took longer than most places to come out but was worth the wait. I had the chicken fajitas. Would be helpful if the menu showed calories per meal etc. lovely meal and will come back.

Had a lovely meal with friends. The food was well-presented and delicious and we didn't have to wait long for it to arrive. Very friendly and professional staff made sure we enjoyed our visit.

This is a lovely, friendly pub and the food is excellent. If you're in the area it's definitely worth a visit. We had Gower chicken and a couple of bottles of wine. All the food coming out looked good.

My son booked a table as it was his 46th birthday, there's 5 of us in total and we sat at our reserved table. Being as honest as can be this place is not for the older generation, as my wife and I are disabled and in our 70's we kept an open mind on what was to ensue. The first thing that hits you is the noise level, with my deafness I struggled big time, there are huge tv's on the walls and the place was crammed to the hilt. You pick your food choices from the menu, then order at the bar, between the 5 of us including one drink each it came to just over £150. Four of us had our food at the same time, my grandson had to wait a further 15 to 20 minutes for his as they forgot his order. When the food arrived it was a huge portion, far to much for someone our age, even my son and grandson's couldn't get through it. The food itself was tasty and hot and what we could eat was lovely. This place has two levels of seating, the upper level is up a steep slope, if you're lucky enough to part at the top you stand a chance of getting the wheel chair to the outside seating. There are disabled toilets on both floor's, but with the volume of people rushing around you including children it would be quite dangerous. So, to sum up, it's a place for the younger generation who don't mind putting up with the noise levels and shear volume of people.

Lovely place, I was surprised on how much room there was. Able to eat outside and under an awning. The pub itself has 2 floors, I was downstairs. Staff were fantastic and friendly, the food was excellent. Menu has a wide choice and drinks. Toilets upstairs and downstairs. There is a small play area for children. Totally recommend a visit 👌
