Birchington Square is famous for its beautiful 13th Century All Saints church which is just right next door from The Powell. The Powell itself has held a central role in village Square life for over 250 years and after an extensive refurbishment project re-opened in 2015. The 6 Boutique rooms opened in 2018.
Come and sit by the fireside and enjoy a pint of local ale, have a light lunch in the bar or enjoy a delicious meal in the dining room, or stay the night in one of our luxurious, crisp and comfortable en-suite boutique bedrooms.
If you're looking for a venue for a party then book the Powell! From the outset its been easy and stress free. Complete flexibility with food options and the food was the best we have had for a party locally. The venue is a cosy country pub feel and the rooms are comfy yet luxurious. Thank you Sophie and team for your help. 5 stars for all, only given 4 stars for location as no onsite carpark so guests have to pay to parking or park and walk from residential roads but this isnt a big deal.
Had our Christmas Work do here, hoping we went on a dodgy night but the slow cooked beef & garlic mash was so tough and was served with a watery gravy and no veg My friends vegetarian option was forgotten even tho we'd preordered Really unlike the Powell
Been here a fair few times and I was blown away each time. But tonight's dinner was awful, never like leaving bad reviews but consistency is key that's why we came back, have been put off coming here again. Starters, we're nothing compared to the same starter I had before. Specially for £9. The main was very very standard, mash was bit lumpy, grissile in the sausage & gravey was like water with minimal onion( baring in mind it's onion gravy). Everything just lacked in flavour. The only reason we ate was because we was starving. Was very disappointed.
I would encourage all musicians who book here to organise their payment method before performing as I was waiting over a week for payment and was lied to on more than one occasion!!! Had to chase the owner across different businesses in Kent to finally receive payment.
We've been to the Powell on a few occasions this year, while we have been planning our wedding at Chapel House Estate. Every time we've been there we have felt so welcomed that it feels like we're locals, even though we live 100 miles away! We booked out all 6 rooms at the Powell for our wedding guests, who all could not speak highly enough of the comfort and service provided during their stay. One of our family members who is just over 6'7 even said the beds were big enough or him! Which was a joy and surprise for him! We've eaten at the Powell as well on a few occasions and the food is always exceptional! Byron, the owner and Head Chef never makes a bad choice when it comes to food! And we can't wait to visit one of his other pubs and restaurants in the future. We also decided that it would be the perfect venue for our rehearsal dinner the night before, and the team at the Powell couldn't have been more accommodating to us, allowing us to take up their restaurant space for the evening! 30 of our close family and friends all in one place, getting ready to celebrate our marriage together was just wonderful. My only downside to The Powell is that it is so far away!! We both wish that we could be true regulars to this fantastic place!!

The Wheel is a larger than average micro-pub in Thanet, that sells a myriad of Real Ale, Premium Lager, Cider & Wine. Being somewhat different, The Wheel also offers a small selection of spirits (including Vodka, Dark Rum, Brandy, Port and Gin & Tonic).
