This site is Blackburn’s former general post office, typical of the grand, Edwardian post offices built in the early 1900s.
I have posted previously about jd I posted mainly cos of my first taste of haggis, neeps and tatties. If you like pepper in your food you may like haggis for me once is adequate! My better half's meal of chicken basket was as usual decent quality as we're the drinks and of course the price is unbeatable. As an aside there seems an growing tendancy for mothers and young children/babies?Pubs not An appropriate place for babies. Just saying.
Despite it being very busy. the staff were great. The building is the best spoons I've been in. Very well lit. Great atmosphere and holds is busyness well.
It's really sad to say but breakfast was stone cold, At the time I did not say anything as we were limited for time, The breakfast came out within 5 mins if you cooked it that fast it should have been hot, My only guess is that its all pre cooked and left in pans going cold, Please teach the cook how to keep food hot.
The place was nice but noisy. I ordered my usual, but my how the portions had shrunk. A few chips and very thin ham, with barely 2 pieces. It was nice the eggs were done just right. I paid £7.90 and came home feeling robbed and still hungry.
The Postal Order like most of the Wetherspoons portfolio looks the business from the outside but unfortunately fails once you walk in. Usually there is nice decor and architecture in their establishments but this one feels more like a social club and lacks the 'spoons' feel. It would have got 2 stars if I was judging it on that but I've given it 5 stars purely on the quality of food and the service the staff provided. The food arrived piping hot within 10 minutes and the request for 'well done' chips was fulfilled. Both the meals, chicken tikka & fried chicken buttermilk burger were outstanding & delicious and the constant noticeable staff around to attend to customers was great to see. A busy pub with mostly regulars but would recommend it for just the food alone 10/10 👏👏👏
