We spent Christmas here this year and it was absolutely lovely. The staff went above and beyond considering how busy they were and were working over Christmas, we were so grateful for their kindness. The room was very small (especially as I had a dog with me) but everything was clean, warm and modern (within keeping of the building). The inn itself was picture perfect with warm welcoming bar and restaurant rooms that had a great atmosphere. The food was also good. Would highly recommend it and would definitely go back.

Stunning pub, apparently the oldest in the country, Saxons were fighting vikings when this pub was built (not fact checked). Whether eating or drinking, this pub is worth a visit. Similar menu to Sheep on sheep street from across the street, just incase you plan on eating at both. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Food was great too! Dog friendly too of this is something you are looking for! Ambient lighting and decor throughout is gorgeous, really sets the mood 👌 Great for couples as well as families. Highly recommended if you are in the area, worth travelling to from surrounding villages too. We didn’t stay here so can’t comment on the accommodation. Lots of history with this old pub ⭐️ 🐕‍🦺🍻🍾🍔🥗🍗🥘🍛🧙‍♂️

We had dinner here last night. We were sat on the table next to the stunning open fire. Our waitress was fantastic and the food was delicious. We didn’t feel rushed and the wine list had a great selection. The venue is gorgeous. Would definitely recommend.

A simply beautiful establishment with a warm homely feel all round. So glad we booked to have food here this evening. The food was simply fantastic, the beef wellington was absolutely spot on. Staff were very attentive and friendly and all food for us was on point. Beautifully decorated within and the open fire finished off the country pub feel to it. We all left very happy with our experience. We will definitely visit again in future.

The Porch House is a historically significant pub, with origins dating back to 947 AD. Beyond its historical charm, the restaurant and pub offer a well-designed layout, with ample tables allocated for both hotel guests and the general public. One minor inconvenience we encountered was the absence of menus on the table, requiring us to get up and seek one from behind the bar. Nevertheless, the prices, while on the higher side, were justifiable for a five-star pub. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the fish and chips, which featured a wonderfully crispy and fresh batter. The fish itself tasted far from frozen, and the chips were exceptionally fresh, exuding a genuine potato flavor. The accompanying sauces enhanced the overall dining experience. A standout feature of this establishment is its warm welcome to dogs, making it a pet-friendly venue. However, it’s worth noting that the practice of encouraging tipping on card machines, although common in America, can be somewhat uncomfortable for the rest of us.
