About us

Welcome to our 18th Century Grade II listed establishment, where history meets modern comfort. Our charming building features two distinct dining rooms, offering an array of experiences for our valued guests.

First, step into our bright and vibrant 32-seater restaurant, boasting a delightful view of our expansive garden and private cricket pitch. As you dine, enjoy the serene surroundings, blending the elegance of the past with the excitement of today.

Connected to the restaurant is our cosy lounge dining area, adorned with traditional pub features that create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Here, you can savor your meal and share moments with friends in an intimate setting.

For those seeking a more casual experience, our informal bar area awaits, where you can unwind with a quiet drink or enjoy a relaxed dinner by the crackling log fire on a chilly winter's evening.

In warmer weather, our generous garden offers 'al fresco' dining, complete with picnic benches and umbrellas to allow you to bask in the summer sun while indulging in delicious cuisine.

Keep an eye out for our friendly league cricket team as they play their home games on our cricket ground. And if you're in the mood for a game, the ground can be hired for rounders, accompanied by your very own private chef and BBQ for outdoor parties (weather permitting).

We understand the importance of accessibility, offering a large car park with a designated disabled space, as well as wheelchair-friendly facilities (though, as it's an old building, there are some limitations). We provide free WiFi for your convenience, and well-behaved dogs are more than welcome in our bar area.

We can't wait to welcome you to The Poplars and provide you with a delightful experience soon. Your satisfaction and comfort are our top priorities!.

Had never tried The Poplars before and was not dissapointed. Service was friendly and attentive. The young waiter was definitely keen to check up on us and our food regularly. Food was brilliant, clearly lovingly hand-made by the chef really tasty and well thought-out. The menu was just the right size with the kind of options you want from a country pub. I had the steak and ale pie it was wonderful Thanks guys for your hospitality, will be back!

Lovely pub, has been a favourite for many years. I spoke to the landlady recently, really welcoming and friendly. We arrived with our dogs and had a drink and food in the bar area. Can't fault this pub, 5 stars.

Simply the best steak I ever had. Thank you to Corina ( I think she is the landlady) for making our 15th wedding anniversary so special. She was an absolute joy. When she wasn't making us smile, we were stuffing our greedy faces with amazing food. I receive a 'Happy Birthday ' cheesecake to celebrate - which made the evening even more special. Thank you to all the staff that made our meal one to remember.

Poplar by name and nature. Last visited on the first night, the new owners took over, which was chaotic for the staff. But glad to see it's all settled down and the staggered seating times worked really well. The food was great. I'm glad to see fagotts back on the menu, though I went for juicy rump steak, which was perfectly cooked. One of our diners had the shoulder of lamb, which looked great and tasted delicious. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals and were very pleased to to this pub fully booked and serving great food again.

I went here for dinner and was rather impressed. I ordered the steak with rosemary chips and salad. To drink, I had Pepsi. I was asked if I wanted ice or not, and I answered no, but to my disappointment, I was given some ice. I had also asked for no dressing on my salad, but I had been given dressing overall. I found the food quality was exceptional and had a lovely lively atmosphere to the place. 4 Stars.
